Re: Ghost 15 hangs "reconciling volume" at 1% on incremantal backups

Is it possible that the drive was disconnected while a backup was occuring? Simply disconnecting the drive, if it's the destination drive, should not cause the excessive reconcile, as long as it's not being used. A dirty shut-down may have also occured after a Windows update. Whatever the reason, it will not hurt anything to simple cancel the reconcile, right-click on the icon and choose 'Run or Manage Backups', and get a new recovery point set started, thus resetting the 'vdiff' table.

I use a laptop and have to do this every so often, rather than wait out the 1%. In the next release, we are getting rid of the 'vdiff' format and switching to a new format which results in faster incremental backups after an operating system failure (e.g. unexpected shutdown/reset).

Re: Ghost 15 hangs "reconciling volume" at 1% on incremantal backups

I don’t want my external drive permanently connected for several reasons, so perhaps I’ll use a USB flash drive as Dick suggests, but it won’t have the capacity of my current drive.

It’s good to know that the problem will be resolved, or maybe just minimised, in a future release. Any idea when, Andy ?

Thank you both for your advice.

Hi,

Let me correct an omission on my part. My USB drive is a 1TB external drive.

As for when it will be ready? I suspect that not even Andy knows for sure. And, even if he did he wouldn't be saying. Estimating final release dates is more risky than betting on the lottery. :smileyfrustrated:

I signed up and hope to participate in the beta testing. I see 64-bit Recovery Environment is coming. Yeah! This will help build the SRD into the Windows Recovery Environment. Maybe that's the whole point. I read somewhere Microsoft is going to stop licensing WinPE.

Re: Ghost 15 hangs "reconciling volume" at 1% on incremental backups

Running an HP laptop with Win 7 I had the same problem re "stuck at 1% for 8 or 10 hours. I went to the external (destination) drive. I selected and cut the last successful back up and pasted it in another place, just in case. I then went into Ghost and an error popped up saying recovery files had been deleted and did I want them recovered or erased. I ignored this and started a new back up. It immediately went to 5% and then went on to complete a new recovery point and back up.
