Ghost vs. Save and Restore?

What's the difference between Norton Ghost 14.0 and Save & Restore 2.0? And which one is newer?

I need to backup my Documents folder (not my entire hard drive).

Thanks,

Shane.

Hi Shane,

Norton Ghost 14.0 is newer than Norton Save and Restore 2.0. Both Norton Ghost 14.0 and Norton Save and Restore 2.0 have the features to create drive backup, file and folder backup and Copy Drive. However, the following features are available exclusively on Norton Ghost 14.0:

  • Offsite Copy
  • Backups to FTP server
  • Remote backup management
  • Triggered backups based on ThreatCon level
  • Lightsout Restore

If you want only basic features such as backing up the hard drives and file and folder backup, then Norton Save and Restore 2.0 would do that. Let  me know if you have any question.

Re: Ghost vs. Save and Restore?

Do they both have the ability to exclude certain folders, files, and extensions?

Thanks,

Shane.

Re: Ghost vs. Save and Restore?

You can include specific files, folders or filetypes to include in the backup. The option to exclude certain filetypes or files within the selected folders to backup is not available.

Re: Ghost vs. Save and Restore?

Vinod,

I'm trying to find a backup product that is as powerful as the one included in Windows XP. I really liked it because it allowed me to select the folders I wanted to back up, and exclude particular files and extensions that I didn't want backed up. Do you know of a backup solution, possibly non-Norton, that can do this?

Thanks,

Shane.

Re: Ghost vs. Save and Restore?

Unfortunately I haven't used other backup products other than Norton Ghost and few other Norton products. This feature to exclude certain file types is available with Norton Online Backup. But the drawback there is that you cannot backup to local storage drives.

Re: Ghost vs. Save and Restore?

Vinod,

I use Mozy.com for online backup, and I'm searching for a product that can backup to my external hard drive. I was hoping that Norton would have something, but I guess I'll have to keep looking.

Thanks,

Shane.
