Hi,
I bought Ghost 15.0 and installed it on Win XP Prof SP3. Installation went smooth. Backup/Restore of "normal" files work fine. I restore to an external USB drive.
However, I encounter several issues with files which are encrypted with the built-in EFS in NTFS.
- Files and folders backup doesn't work at all. Backup stops with a couple of error messages, the most obvious one is EBAB03F1: Access denied.
- when I do an image of the whole drive, backup works and includes the encrypted files. However, when trying to restore the files, I get an error message EC8B0018 saying "restoring encrypted files from this application is not supported"
- the only way to restore the files is to access the image via the Windows Explorer. I am afraid that this is not the most reliable method in case the system crashes. Furthermore, with files and folders backup I could backup critical folders more frequently as scanning the hwole drives takes a long time.
I had a support session, but this was not helpful.
I guess my most important question is: Is something wrong here or is this "works as designed"? Does Norton Ghost have serious limitations with EFS encrypted files? This would be very disappointing and limits the value of the software. I only found a reference in the user guide saying that the files cannot be viewed in the recovery browser (which doesn't bother me).
BR,
Michael

Am I the only one who uses Windows file encryption or am I the only one who faces problems with them?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hi mizmiz,
Welcome to the community!
Unfortunately, backing up of encrypted files and folders is currently not supported.
Thanks,

Hi Tom,
thanks. Now I can at least save time looking for a resolution. I already spent hours on this.
Very disappointing, though.
