Hi Brian,
Windows XP SP2.
And I need to update to SP3

OK, WinXP is easier to backup than Win7. You don't have to worry about whether a SRP is present.

Hi Brian,
I've studied the info on krisRowland page, which now raises theses queries:
Q1: How large does the USB-memory-stick need to be for a CSRD ?
Q2: Do I have to have a working 'Symantec Recovery Disk' on CD...
before I can create a 'CUSTOM Symantec Recovery Disk' on CD or USB-memory-stick ?
Q3: Can I have other things on the stick, or must it be kept just for the CSRD ?
Thanks, hope you can help.

1 GB plus.
Yes. A CD or an ISO.
You can put other data on the flash drive.

Brian: Thanks for that info...
For now, I decided to keep it simple, and made my 'CUSTOM Symantec Recovery Disk' on a CD.
With it, I can boot the PC OK.
I looked around at my various drives, which all seem to be visible, and accessible
Next: I loaded the CSRD normally and selected: Run Driver Validation
...and a message says: All detected storage devices and network cards have drivers in the 'Symantec Recovery Disk''
Then: I tried to follow the steps in its help file, to validate the restore-points, but was unable to do this...
So could you explain how to do this ?
Many thanks.

mac,
In Windows, double click the .v2i. This opens Recovery Point Browser. Select the .v2i (top of left pane), click the Verify icon.
