I ultimate got problem fixed with help of a Norton tech.  My Sony VAIO machine has memory card slots that are driven from a USB driver.  For some reason, Norton was generating error message because there were no cards in the card slots.  Uninstalling the memory card slots and restarting the machine, to reinstall the memory card slots, seems to have gotten rid of error messages.
