How to transfer files from Desktop to Laptop - NOT cloning

I have a Ghost 15 image of my desktop computer. I'm heading out on an extended work trip and want to transfer my complete image to my laptop computer as a folder so I have all my desktop data. Can this be done? If so how?

Thanks,

DDR

Hi,

You can copy your files from the desktop to the laptop, if you have the space, so that they are available but the Ghost image file of the desktop won't be readable in its compressed form - you would have to restore it on the laptop and I'm thinking that it would make quite a mess. It might be better to .ZIP the files and copy that folder over. Then you could selectively unzip what you need on the laptop, when you need it.

Hope this helps

Hi ddr,

It seems to me that, for what you want to do, a better, more practical solution would be to simply make straight copies of only the files and folders that you wiil need and move the copies over to the laptop.

If you want to bring an image file with you, you can right-mouse click on the .V2i file and 'mount' the image. This will assign a read-only drive letter to the contents of the image file from which you can copy files out of at-will.

Question,

How much space would be required to do this? Maybe as a percentage of size over the size of the V2i file.

Thanks

If you don't have Ghost installed on the laptop you can use this:

http://service1.symantec.com/support/powerquest.nsf/docid/2008040902583362?OpenDocument&lg=en&ct=us&...

Thats a standalone tool that requires no installation.

Put that and your image file on your laptop and you'll be able to use the tool to open the image and pull out the files and folders as you need them.
