Image distribution to multiple devices

I want to use Ghost to distribute an XPe image update to multiple devices that are out in the field.  I will only install Ghost on the machine that I will be making the image master on but will be providing the resultant file to customers.

I looked thru the EULA and am not sure if this is okay or not.  Can anyone shed some light on this?

Hello mmagelky

Welcome to the Norton Community

Since no one has responded to you yet, I am going to see if I can find someone who has some knowledge about your question. A Symantec employee may respond(names in red).

Hi mmagelky,

I am not from Symantec so you can wait for final word from them. But techincally if you purchase one Ghost license it can be used on only one computer.

Also in order to restore the image to a computer, a Ghost recovery CD is required.

You can also contact Customer Service and ask them this question. I have been told this in the past directly by Symantec. This is the link for USA/Canada, please let me know if you need a different language.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.

Allen

Re: Image distribution to multiple devices

I'm not a Symantec employee, but I think you'll find that when deploying images you need a license for each system the image is deployed upon.

If you create this master image and send the image to your customers they will need Ghost in order to restore the image.

Im not sure what you mean by XPe, if your talking about Windows XP embedded I'm sure your aware that the most common way of deploying it is using Windows PE and ImageX.  Those tools are availible to anyone with access to the embedded platform but it's a rather intimidating and time consuming way to make the deployment disk.

Ghost is far easier and quicker, if your looking at deploying numerous systems you may want to look at Ghost solution suite.

It's the most cost effective way to deploy a lot of systems.  If it's just a few you might want to see if adding the cost of Ghost 15 to each deployment is feasible.

Sorry if I misunderstood XPe

Re: Image distribution to multiple devices

Dave and Allen are correct.

Norton Ghost is a 1-user license copy intended for a single machine.  Deployment is not supported in the EULA.  For deployment, Ghost Solution Suite (GSS) or Backup Exec System Recovery (BESR) are the tools to use.  Both are enterprise products.
