Is there a launch date for Ghost 15 yet?
I’m installing Win7 this weekend and I was wondering how long I’d have to wait before I could back it all up.
Thanks

Hi Kimmy
Tony Weiss announced a few weeks ago that the next version of Ghost was being developed but could not, at that time, give any dates. Symantec always respond to significant events such as the Win 7 release so I would expect that they will have some announcement in the very near future.
As an interim measure, while you wait for the next Ghost, you could use the Backup feature in Win 7 that also does a full system image - I've used it and it works well.
Thanks for your patience and enjoy Win7.

This is just plain laziness on Symantec's part. There is absolutely no reason they don't have a compatible version for Win 7, when Acronis had their newest version out over a month ago.
Hi Ron,
As mentioned it is already confirmed that there will be a Windows 7 compatible version of Ghost (Ghost 15). This is a fact and what we cannot tell you is the exact release date.
We just now hit the release date of Windows 7 so I do think it is a bit premature to say they are being lazy. Also many companies are reluctant to release the new version based on a pre-release version of a new OS. And this is for good reason as the OS is under change and may require changes in the third party software to adjust to changes in the OS.
The pre-release versions of the OS are supplied to companies so that the core development of the new software can be done with the new OS and that allows a big head start instead of waiting for official release of the new OS.

I need Ghost 15 more than anything now. I’ve just installed Win7 plus all my usual programs. The complete installation takes up 14.8GB. The same installation under WinXP was less than 5GB.
I’ve tried using the built-in backup utility that’s part of Win7, but that took 45mins and resulted in a file 11.6GB in size. To be safe, I’ll have to buy one of those external USB hard drives just for backups.
Hurry up Symantec…

That is so wrong. That's not how it works. Win7 RTM is the final version. By your own logic, Norton Ghost 3.5 or NIS 2010 should've never been released before the official Win7 release... but they did.

HI Marc,
I am well aware of RTM process, I am a software engineer myself and deal with this process as part of my job. Windows 7 went RTM on August 3rd I believe it was, 2 1/2 months ago. Ghost 15 has been in the works for some time. The process of release of new software takes time and has to go through proper testing. My post was responding to someone else who said that Symantec was being lazy which I firmly believe is wrong because as I said Ghost 15 has been in process and I'm sure Symantec will release it when they feel it is the right time and it has had the proper testing.
I also stated that it was premature to say that Symantec was being lazy about the release of Ghost 15. The very fact that they have already released Windows 7 version of some products is proof of that.
You can't honestly expect every software product out there to be released right after RTM starts.
