I want to image (backup) my laptop's 750 Gig HDD Windows 7 home premium computer to an external 3 TB backup drive. I've tried to use the windows 7 system imaging software and received an error message that states that only 32 bit sector drives(FAT) are supported.
I looked at reviews for a highly rated Backup (imaging) alternative on Amazon and found reports of big problems using the alternative with WIN 7 and 3TB (GPT) backup drives. Apparently 1 and 2 TB disks are "MBR" (whatever that stands for) and had no problems
I tried Ghost 14 and it was ".... known incompatible ..." with Windows 7 Home Premium.
Before I spend the money for Ghost 15, and risk losing close to 4 weeks of work getting my new laptop the way I want it, I need some serious comfort that Ghost 15 it can create an image file that is recoverable on the 3TB drive described above. Ghost 15 is NTSF compatible , but I can find nothing on line that discusses Ghost 15's performance on 3TB drives and performance on "GPT" drives.

Posts in this forum indicate Ghost 15 can't see a USB external GPT HD over 2 TB in size.
MBR (master boot record) drives can be up to 2 TB in size. Anything over 2 TB has to be GPT (guid partition table).

I had mixed results with a 3 TB GoFlex desk external USB-2 backup disk.
In Jan & Feb 2012, All attempts to backup to this drive Failed. Copy and paste works.
Win 7-64 Home P, Win 7 Backup program fails with "Last backup did not complete successfully". Sometimes with Error [ox8078002A] and IO Device Error [ox8007045D].
Switched the 3TB over to a Vista-32 Home P. Ghost 15 had similar problems and would error out after several hours of backing up. Looking on the 3TB, I could see large files were created. The Error Messages bothered me.
But, on 8 Mar, Ghost started to complete the Backups without error messages.
This week, my Vista-32 laptop drive died with a Fatal System Error that prevented me from booting up. Several programs declared the disk dead with many errors. In with a new hard drive and I used the Ghost CD as a Bootable disk and Restore program. It worked! I am still optimizing the disk to recover the extra Unallocated Space due to a larger drive. Several partitions were created in their original size, leaving me with unused space.
Did I say that it worked? From my 3TB Seagate drive. Miracles never cease.
