NORTON GHOST 15 PROBLEMS AGAIN

I have Ghost 15 & the NEW Norton 360 v6, Running Windows 7, IE9, Windows Live Mail.

And have the same PROBLEM as last year.

I had to do a hard machine turn off, as the machine  would not turn off as it should.!!!

Norton Ghost 15 will not backup my files any more,

You have to uninstall completely, and do a NEW install of Ghost 15

If you remove the old backup that does not work, and try to create a new one, it will not let you do it, as it is shaded out???.

How can I remove old file and folder backups as there no function for this??????

[ Edited ]

Are you saying you cannot set up Backup My Computer for incremantal backups?

You may need to clear the history and schedule files. This should have been done when you uninstalled Ghost if you told it not to keep the files. Anyway, this should work for you...

EDIT: Never mind this, it looks like you are using File and Folder backup. Most Ghost users do not prefer F & F Backup, but images instead...

Re: NORTON GHOST 15 PROBLEMS AGAIN

YES, you  cannot set up Backup My Computer for incremental backups!.

Thank you, I agree, in future I will only do a image backups.

So my Main problem now is, If I switch my computer off by the power switch, (if it will not shut down normally),

Why will it not do a backup the next time it is due, and of course after a restore it is the same.????

So can you tell me what to do, to get the computer to backup again. Without removing and reinstalling Ghost15

Thanks

Re: NORTON GHOST 15 PROBLEMS AGAIN

OK, if you are trying to do incremental images (Backup My Computer), then do the steps in the first link. It should get things straightened out.

If you are forcing your PC off, it freaks Ghost out. This causes Ghost to reconcile since the last backup. This can take as long if not a little longer than the original backup. Ghost tracks the changes to the harddrive and during shutdown, it writes a small file (VSNAP.IDX) to the harddrive. By forcing a dirty shutdown, VSNAP.IDX doesn't get written to the drive. Ghost then has to compare the whole drive to the last backup.

Re: NORTON GHOST 15 PROBLEMS AGAIN

We have had a few power cuts here,

and at times I have had to  force my  PC off as it will not turn off!!.

I tried to do a backup the other day ,and it went on for hours, and it got to 5%

perhaps I should Have keep it running longer ?

Thanks

Re: NORTON GHOST 15 PROBLEMS AGAIN

It depends on how big the backups are and the speed of the harddrives. Do yourself a favor and get a UPS. My PC usually takes about 20 minutes to run the initial backup. Incrementals (daily) usually take about 2 minutes. If I have a dirty shutdown, I think it usually takes about 30 minutes. So, yeah, you probably should have let it run for at least 2-3 times longer than it takes to run the baseline backup. It will stay at 5%  for a while while it is reconciling.

Re: NORTON GHOST 15 PROBLEMS AGAIN

The reconiliation part is what takes all the time. So it will show 5% or 6% for almost the entire duration of the process. Once reconciliation is complete, it then takes the incremental backup, which usually takes only a minute or two. So if the entire process takes 1 hour, you could be staring at 5% for 57 minutes and then it will complete in the remaining 3 minutes.
