Norton 360 v 2 ..... Symantec Service Framework Stopped Working!

[ Edited ]

Hi :smileyhappy:

I was wondering if someone could help me with a problem I have with Norton 360 v 2

My computer is Vista Home Premium - Service Pack One
And up until a few weeks ago I was using Norton 360 v 1 + Add On Pack with no problems!

On the 8/4/08 I updated through the Symantec website to Norton 360 v 2 + Add On Pack

Everything seemed fine at first.
Apart from the fact - Every time it ran a Full Scan...
About half way through for approx 2 seconds it would almost blow up my Quad Core CPU

Then a week after I'd installed 360 v 2
HP sent me an update for my Graphics Card Driver.
My computer ended up in a mess
And it took me approx 4 System Restores to get it back to normal.
By the time I'd got my Graphics Card back..... Norton 360 v 2 was saying - Internal Error!

I had no choice but to uninstall Norton 360 v 2 using the Norton Removal Tool.

But then I had a bit of a shock!

When I looked in Vista's Problem Reports and Solutions
There was a long list of....
Symantec Service Framework Stopped Working.

Realising Norton 360 v 2 hadn't been working properly since the begining anyway.
I thought.... Good Job I'm reinstalling Norton 360 v 2

So I reinstalled Norton 360 v 2

This Time .... I did NOT install the Add ON Pack!

Everything seemed fine for a few hours
Well apart from the fact....
It said it had caught a Cookie - I clicked to FIX
And it reported...
Risk Found 1
Risks Fixed 0

Then I opened Norton Home and clicked on Network Map
Norton Froze!

And suddenly Windows started telling me .... Symantec Service Framework Stopped Working

I Shutdown my computer - Turned it back On - Norton seemed fine .... Until the Next Morning!

Once again....

Windows started telling me Symantec Service Framework Stopped Working

This happened in the middle of a Background - Full Scan
And then windows continued to tell me every few minutes .... Symantec Service Framework Stopped Working

So again....
I uninstalled!

Again - Using the Norton Removal Tool.

This time I also used CCleaner to get rid of approx 100 Norton 360 v 2 registry keys.
I think I should have use CCleaner to clean the Window Temporary Files as well.
But I haven't had much experience with CCleaner ... So I was too Scared!

So Once Again.... I installed Norton 360 v 2 for the 3rd time.

Again.... I did NOT install the Add On Pack

No Point anyway!

It doesn't have Pop Up Blocker or Ad Blocker anymore :smileysurprised:

Anyway....

Everything seemed fine!
I checked Vista's
Problem Reports and Solutions
And for two days ....
NO! ....
Symantec Service Framework Stopped Working

Then it started again!
:smileysad:

Just like with the very first install of 360 v 2 .... This time - I'm not getting any messages popping up saying....

Symantec Service Framework Stopped Working

I only see them when I go into
Problem Reports and solutions

And I know why!

I have been keeping a note of the times when I shutdown my computer.
These....
Symantec Service Framework Stopped Working
That I see in Problem Reports and Solutions - Are obviously being logged as the computer is in the middle of Shutting down.
It's not happening every time.
I'd say 50% of the time.

But is my computer Safe?

This situation It's not exactly ideal

And I'm scared to touch anything to do with Norton in case it starts Freezing again.

I know I'm not the only person with this problem.
And from Googling...
I Know there has been the same problem  with Norton Internet Security 2008

I have to wonder...
Is this why Norton 360 v 2 wasn't released until much later.

I don't know what to do!
But I know I'm not the only person having this problem with Norton 360 v 2

There seem to be many others!

Please can someone help!

Thank You!

Hi Tony :smileyhappy:

I have read the other posts regarding the subject of ...

Symantec Service Framework Stopped Working

Unfortunately!

I found no solution from them.

However...

I have not had that error message now - Since I had to restart the computer on Sunday afternoon.

I have done a couple of little things!

Not sure which one may have helped ... Or if the error message has indeed gone for good

But this is what I did.....

First let me tell you this!

After I had installed Norton 360 for the 3rd time...

I noticed that I had a couple of other problems too!

1/ In Device Manager my Card Reader wasn't working - It had an Exclamation Mark next to it.

2/ When using Media Centre... I now get an error message saying - Intel Alert Service Stopped Working.

Back to what I did....

1/ I reinstalled my 15 in 1 Card Reader

This was the last time I had the Symantec Service error message... When I restarted to reinstall my Card Reader.

2/ I ran Live Update

3/ I ran 2 custom scans...

The first time ....  The scan only ran for approx 40 seconds... Found a Tracking Cookie - Then Stopped!

The second time ....  The scan found Tracking Cookies but continued to run as a Full Scan.

4/ I used Norton to clean Temp Files, History etc..

So Now I'll just have to wait and see if -  Symantec Service Framework Stopped Working

... Comes back again!

Note!

I have emailed Intel about my problem with Media Centre

But from doing a bit of Googling...

Norton always seems to have just been installed when this problem occurs.

Luckily! .... I believe I simply have to update my Intel VIIV software to fix this problem.

Fingers Crossed!

Thanks for you support Tony!

Re: Norton 360 v 2 ..... Symantec Service Framework Stopped Working!

I've been having a multitude of problems since upgrading to 360 v2 from v1.  I've reformatted my hard drive three times and found that this program interferes with other programs that use .NET Framework.  I never had this problem with 360 v1.  Other programs don't run that also use Framework probably because they are older and use a different version of Framework.

While I prefer 360 v2 over v1, I'm now finding new problems such as sluggish mouse behavior as well as strange behavior with the mouse as if it has a mind of its own such as what I consider the runaway mouse pointer that clicks on things when I'm not even touching it.  I can't figure out if it's some new virus that Norton doesn't recognize or a driver error for the mouse.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, but that didn't work then reformatted the hard drive again.

All of the problems arrived when I installed 360 v2.  It's the only new program I have installed since the problems began.

Hi Tony :smileyhappy:

I guess I spoke too soon! :smileysad:

Symantec Service Framework Stopped Working ............. Is Back!

Just before I shutdown my computer last night .... I looked at the clock - It said 22 : 01

So that's 10 : 01 pm

When I turned on my computer this morning....

I checked in Vista's Problem Reports and Solutions - History

Symantec Service Framework Stopped Working

The time it happened was reported as 22 : 02

So that's 10 : 02 pm

It had to have been in the last few seconds before my computer shutdown.

Since the 3rd Install of Norton 360 v 2....

It only ever happens as I shut the computer down.

I don't actually know it's happened.... Until the next time I switch my computer back on.

I'm not alerted to this problem by Windows or Norton - Because the Computer is almost Off when it happens.

But it still worries me a bit!

It's as though Norton doesn't know how to shutdown properly with the computer :smileysad:

It makes me wonder...

How many people have got this problem with Norton 360 v 2 .... But just don't know they've got a problem.

If I didn't keep checking Vista's Problem Reports and Solutions - History

I wouldn't know I had a problem either :smileyindifferent:

Re: Norton 360 v 2 ..... Symantec Service Framework Stopped Working!

hi whbos - i admire your tenacity, but i'm troubled by the problems you describe. to confirm,

  1. you've reformatted 4x - was this as a result of problems you encountered after installing V2?
  2. you indicated that one of your discoveries from reformats was V2 interferring with programs that use .NET framework - can you talk about that discovery and the programs?
  3. can you confirm that the mouse behavior is always after reinstalling V2 following a reformat?

sorry for all the questions but you have an intriguing problem. last question - have you encountered the error "Symantec Service Framework stopped working" or any other specific error message?

Hi whbos :smileyhappy:

I'm sorry I cant help with your Norton 360 v 2 problems :smileysad:

I can't even fix my Own!

But as for your mouse problem....

If your using Vista - Check in - Ease of Access ....

To make sure you haven't activated your mouse to open windows, programs etc....

By hovering your mouse over things rather than having to click on them.

Start

Control Panel

Ease Of Access

Ease Of Access Center

Make the mouse easier to use

Then check the settings!

Hope this helps!
