Norton Backup Error message A1017

Backup is failing repeatedly with Error Message A1017 being the reason.  I bought Backup because the is an older computer and I'm afraid of hard drive failure....HELP!!! before I lose all the pictures of my grandchildren.  I have not yet had a successful backup.

Re: Norton Backup Error message A1017

Hello tinkersmom1216,

Can you please answer the following so I can help you diagnose and resolve this issue:

  • When did this issue start occuring?
  • Are you running only automatic or also manual backups?
  • If you are running only automatic backups can you please try starting a manual backup by logging into your Norton Online Backup account and select Backup Now next to the Computer having the issue.
  • If you have multiple Computers backing up - are all of them having this issue or one specific one?

Thank you,

Re: Norton Backup Error message A1017

I am having the same issue. I log into the Online Backup, the files are scanned, and at the point of beginning the Transfer, it stays on Transfer 0% and I eventually get a Backup Failed Message A1017. I'm a new backup user and only have one computer being backed up at this time. My internet connection is functioning okay.

Re: Norton Backup Error message A1017

Hi,

I'm having the same error message. I just installed Windows 7, and did a manual back up. Then the system automatically tried another backup later. Both failed, with error message "Backup failed (A1017)". It's only one computer. I'm not a pro, so very simple step by step instructions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jolan

Re: Norton Backup Error message A1017

Same problem here, bought Norton Backup last week .
I am having problems with failed backups. When i do a backup I get a A1017 error message.
Things i have done:
I removed the computer from the interface, re-set it up and limited the backup to a small number of files.
That went OK.: backup succeeded (1 Gb)
When I expanded the backup to 10 Gb, the backup starts but end with an error A1017

I'm using Windows 7.

Any suggestions?

Greetings

Carlo

Re: Norton Backup Error message A1017

I too am getting the error message 'Backup failed (A1017)'  every time I run a backup, manual or scheduled. The message is most unhelpful and the Error Messages section of the Norton Backup support site is no help either (it lists no error messages). Surely somebody at Norton must know what sort of problem this error message is intended to tell the user about? If it's any comfort to the others who have this problem, I can say that it does seem to be backing up some data each time before failing, so in the week since I bought the product I am getting ever closer to having a complete backup, but it's not the simple 'set and forget' backup solution I was expecting. I will post again if and when I manage to complete a backup and also if I find out what the message means.

Re: Norton Backup Error message A1017

All,

In order to help our engineering staff isolate the issue can you please do the following if you are still experiencing the problem? It may be a repeat of what you've already said but its better we have the info in a set form:

1. Specifically refer to the error message you're getting which is A1017.

2. The email address you use to login to the service.

3. When the issue started occurring if known.

4. If backups completed in the past.

Thank you,
