Norton DNS , Firefox Address Bar Issue Host Not Found!

[ Edited ]

Essentially in all other browsers when you type something in the search bar like "Norton This Happens"

Look at the internet explorer screen-shot attached it searches google for the keyword Norton. This is using the top address bar not the google search engine. Check the screenshot for where i mean in firefox below. So when typing in firefox in the address bar instead of actually searching norton gives you an error , Norton DNS cant find this address instead of searching the search engine like the others it just breaks. Check the "firefox issue" screenshot below to get what i mean. SO how do i solve the issue and allow normal searching to resume because this is a real pain for me having to load google everytime instead of being able to just type a search into the address bar

thanks ryan.

As you can see it works in all other browser part from firefox and thats the one i use :)

Re: Norton DNS , Firefox Address Bar Issue Host Not Found!

Hi,

I've got Norton DNS loaded on my router and use FF some. I have not encountered the error message for anything but sites I shouldn't be going to in the first place. [I went there to test the DNS settings] I did try seveeral different 'Norton' combinations and all presented a search page. This happens using safe search and Google.

Keep us posted. I think there may be more to this.

Im running firefox version 14.0.1 , The issue is present in both my router and network adapter when configured to norton DNS they both display the same problem. When i search one word in the address bar such as Norton , One , DNS or anything with no spaces i get the norton DNS error. But if i add a space then another character the issue does not happen its weird. So something like "Norton Symantec" would search sucessfully. Im unsure i will invesitgate myself into this problem if i cannot find a solution one of you guys can help me over teamviewer the issue is only with firefox and the issue is its my default browser gutted

I only use google but i will test it out with some other search engines and report back.

Update: Tested with other search engines its all the same i can search using the actual search engine no problem its just when using the address bar in firefox with one word. :(

Re: Norton DNS , Firefox Address Bar Issue Host Not Found!

Hi gibby95,

This issue has been discussed on the MozillaZine forum.  It could be a DNS issue, but it may not be strickly a Norton DNS issue, and it may be a bug in FIrefox itself that prevents the DNS lookup from completing successfully.  It might also be due to an extension or something else specific to your Firefox installation.  I was not able to find a definitive answer.  But at least we know that the issue is not uniquely yours.

Re: Norton DNS , Firefox Address Bar Issue Host Not Found!

So ive disabled norton DNS and it works Fine. Until the issue is resolved with norton DNS im going to stop using it. NIS still blocks sites with the toolbar so that will do for now.

Ive checked this article

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Keyword.URL#Possible_values_and_their_effects

Messed with these settings to know avail its firefox features auto complete website that messes with it. For example if you normally type norton in the address bar it takes you to norton.com Instead of googling norton its like auto search feature. This is what i believe to be causing issues with norton DNS so for now i wont use it :)

Thanks.
