Norton Ghost 14 and Windows 7

Hi,

Does anyone know when a compatiable version of Norton Ghost 14 with Windows 7 be released?

I'm without a decent backup solution and am thinking about purchasing a different product.

Hi chaugh

I think the new release should not be too far away. Tony Weiss announced a few weeks ago that they were working on a Win 7 compatible version. As a stopgap measure until a new Ghost version is out you could use the Backup/Imaging capability in Win7 - it works well.

Symantec is working on Ghost 15, there's no release date at the moment, or any other infos...

Plus a lot of user reported, that if you install Ghost 14 ignoring the compatibility prompt on win7, it could work without any errors.
Try it, and let us know the results.

Re: Norton Ghost 14 and Windows 7

I ran into some errors when running Ghost 14 on my computer running Windows 7.  I'll try again tonight.

The fact that the website throws an error when clicking on the "Check"button to check if a windows 7 version is available doesn't install confidence that a product will be available.

On the update center's main page choose the option where you can manually select what program you want to check (under the normal check "button"). But it will not show any version, as for Ghost there's no update because of this:
Products with a perpetual license instead of a subscription (for example Norton Ghost or Norton SystemWorks Basic Edition)
When the new version (15) will be released you, there will be notifications here. Please check here sometimes, and you will find when and where the new version will be available.

I'm getting the following error trying to run Norton Ghost 14 on my Windows 7 machine.

Any ideas how to fix this until Ghost 15 comes out?

*ugh*... I really really wish Ghost was ready when Windows 7 was released...

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

Re: Norton Ghost 14 and Windows 7

Never mind.. I think I just fixed it...

I deleted the config.user file and it's starting to work.  I'm assuming Ghost re-created it.

Back to my previous concern... Even though a product is not able to be selected, I'm still given the option to check for more info.  When I click the button, a "Page Cannot Be Found" message is displayed.  Personally, I feel an end user should never see this sort of error.

Here's a copy of the HTML.

Re: Norton Ghost 14 and Windows 7

Which win7 version do you use? RTM or pre-RTM versions? And x86 or x64?
