I'm having a difficult time understanding how to properly setup my offsite backup.
I have a win7 64 bit system with two internal harddrives. I have two 1 TB usb drives that I want to use for the backups. what's the proper way to configure this? Thanks.

Hi,
I will assume that those drives are connected to your system. This also means that they are not 'off site'. You configure your backup job as usual and designate the appropriate drive as the destination. I use an external USB drive and it is "J:\" currently.

PS: off site may also be thought of as online. This is where you buy space on a server, Norton's or someone elses and store your data there. If I ever need to do off site storage again I think I will use the same system I had some years ago. The storage media was physically taken to a bank safety deposit box each morning. After the next full backup had been verified it was placed there and all of the old media returned to the server room, erased and held for the next round of backups. Nothing complicated.

Although I don't use it, Offline backup works fine with external USB drives. I find it easier just to copy the backup files manually to a second drive. Offline backup can use another folder/drive, FTP or server.

I don't use it either but I like the idea about how Ghost will automatically detect when an offsite drive is plugged into the system and autmatically sync the backups in the background.
Page 82 describes it and the next page shows how to alternate between 2 external drives like you plan on doing.

I think all you need to do is schedule a regular backup to an internal drive and then setup the external drive as a offsite copy.
The key is that the internal drive is the main destination for the images and the externals are setup as offsite copy locations.

Works perfectly. I just had to have the backup go to the internal drive and also have both USB drives connected initally so they could be recognized. This is a really nice feature. Thanks for the help!
