Norton Ghost Status: At Risk

I run ver 14 on my XP pro. It has worked flawlessly for over a year.

I just purchased a new hard drive to replace my smaller external hard drive for external backups. I then put that old external drive in my computer (it replaced an even smaller internal backup drive) to use as my additional internal backup drive (yes I do two backup images per day...one internal and one external).

Now every morning when I boot the system, Ghost has a red X and says that Norton Ghost Status: At Risk. However the scheduled image backups still seem to be working just fine. Interestingly, if I try to open Ghost to see what it thinks is at risk, or once a backup is started, the red X goes away...so that when Norton Ghost opens it says all is fine???

I did open the log and found the following statement amongst the gobly gook in there:

4.05 0.25 0.25 MainForm.InitBetaComments exception: Unable to load DLL 'bclib.dll': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E)

I don't know if this has anything to do with the misterious red X?

Any ideas why I'm seeing the red X at boot but changes to the green check mark if I open Ghost or if it runs it's scheduled backup?

If you open up the status page what drives are you seeing listed and what is their status on the page and on the Advanced Page.

It sounds as though Ghost still thinks you have the original external drive.

Could you upload an image of these two pages?

mdturner:

I tried to attached screen shots of the 3 drives that I use to back up my main drive, plus the Advance page and backup tab, however this board only accepts txt or log file extensions.

Let me add to the info...In addition to the two drives that I mentioned, I also have an extra encrypted drive that I only attach to the computer when I want to make a manual backup, to take with me when I go out of town, in case of a catastrophic loss of my office.  This drive is disabled otherwise in Ghost.

Even though the Ghost tray Icon has a red X (Status:At Risk), all of the scheduled backups seem to work as scheduled.  When the scheduled backup runs or I open Ghost, then the red X goes away and is replaced with the green check mark, telling me that everything is fine???

This has never happened before. Strange.

You can upload an image(s) using the little icon that looks like a small green tree.

Here are some images...showing the Red X, in the system tray, before I open Ghost, the home page and all 3 hard disks and 2 of the Advance pages.

Re: Norton Ghost Status: At Risk- Solved

I decided to go to add/remove and run a repair. Seems to have fixed the issue.

Re: Norton Ghost Status: At Risk- Solved

I thought it was solved..but it isn't.

Just got back in town and see that as soon as I boot up, Ghost gives the "at risk" status in the tray Icon again.

Here is what I have learned so far:

If I disconnect the internal IDE backup drive (drive F:) from the computer and boot up without it, then I get the normal green check mark in the system tray.
If I reconnect drive F:\  and change this  IDE drive from CS  to Single or to Master or to Slave…I still get the red x at boot up of the computer..
If I reconnect Drive F: and open Ghost and change the reporting of Drive F: to no reporting…I still get the Red X. at boot up.
If I open Ghost and change the reporting of Drive G: to no reporting, I get the green check mark at boot up.
There appears to be some sort of conflict between Drive F: and Drive G:, as far as Ghost is concerned.

I deleted the partition of drive F: and reformatted it...still no cure.

Diskmgmt.msc doesn’t report any problems with any of the disks.
I’ve gone to Add/Remove and run Repair for Ghost…still no luck.
Any ideas?????

When you set up your backups, do you label them?  What it looks like is that the mapping references are changing, and that when it needs to check status it is not receiving an expected result.

Eric:

If I understand your question, then the answer is yes. As you can see by one of the screen shots, I name each backup...for example...the internal drive (F:\) is labeled Internal Backup Drive and is directed to the folder "Internal Ghost 14 image backup" on drive F:\.
