Norton Ghost Vista Installation nightmare

Hi,

I've spent half a day trying to install Norton Ghost 15 on Vista w/out success.

The InstallShield Wizard installs Norton Ghost at about 75% completion and then stalls there although the green progress bar is been swiped over via a white phatom block.

This laptop had just Vista freshly re-installed with ALL updates from Microsoft.

Any ideas?

Hi,

Vista x32 or Vista x64?

Any security programs installed or preinstalled?

You could try downloading from here: www.norton.com/nu15

I'm now getting an error:

Error 1720. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package.  A script required for this install to complete could not be run.  Custom action uninstallGenericMountDriver.B24ECCE6_686C_4EE4...

Hi,

Not sure what's happening. Suggest that you check in the Programs and Features area and make sure that no part of Ghost is listed. Do a control panel uninstall if you find anything. It might not hurt to run the Norton Removal Tool found here:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?docid=kb20080710133834EN_EndUs... just to be sure that there's nothing hiding in a dark corner.

Make sure that you have downloaded and installed all of Vista's updates. Reboot and try from the download site.

Re: Norton Ghost Vista Installation nightmare

Yes, by using the Norton Removal tool I was able to get rid of the error message.  No more errors, but nonetheless the installation seems to stall at about 85% of the process.

I got my download from ftp://ftp.symantec.com/plublic/english_us_canada/linked_file/Ghost/NGH1501_AIIW...

Thanks!

Ron,

Have you run a full scan with MSE or Malwarebytes free scanner found here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free ? I don't think the free scanner and MSE conflict. I know that it's Norton compatible.

Re: Norton Ghost Vista Installation nightmare

I've run MSE.  When I attempt to install Ghost, I've noticed two instances of the install process.  I always have to cancel one instance.
