Floplot:
Did you get any information from the CheckIt diagnostics in your system works?

Hi
I looked at Check It. I'm not very computer literate although I been using them for years now. I just ran the had drive part and that shows no errors. My son ran check disk for me the other day and that came up ok also. I'm the same person who had the problem of getting the idle full system scan to run. My son does most of the maintenance type stuff for me. He had to reinstall Norton's System Works 12 twice to get it to work properly. I think the first time, he used a removal tool given to us by Norton Email support which didn't do the job right. Before the 2nd reinstall, we got our own removal tool from Symantec site and then it worked correctly. It has done the idle full system scan now for the last 2 Monday nights.
Since System Works 12 standard was reinstalled twice 2 weeks ago, I don't think another reinstall would work to fix that. After the last reinstall, I believe the recycle bin did load up correctly for a couple of days and then the same thing started to happen. I have to hit that services part and stop and restart the protected service and then it works correctly until the next reboot. Some times it will work correctly for that reboot also, but then it happens again. I had the same problem with System Works 11 also. Some times it would load up ok and other times it wouldn't.
Is there any particular part of that check it that I should run to find any information that may help? There's probably no one here who uses the program to help me. Since I'm not very puter literate and on in age, my son is the one who would have to do what may be necessary to do. He doesn't live with me, so I have to wait till he can come.
Is there a way to d/l the part that is supposed to be used for the protected recycle bin so that it boots up correctly? Can it be put on live update or something?

Let's take a step back here as it's not clear what the actual problem is here. I'm glad to here the idle scan issue doesn't occur. Let's take a look at what you mean by the norton protect recycle bin not "booting up" properly. Keep in mind, that the Norton Protected Recycle Bin is really two different items. The first is the normal Windows Recycle Bin (which the icon will change based on deleted items, emptiness, etc). The second are the Protected Files that you can manage via the Unerase Wizard.
In looking at your initial post you're saying that you do not see items in the bin on restart, could you check the properties of the Norton Protected Recycle Bin? What are your settings on the Norton Protection tab? Drive Usage? The Global Tab?
Go to Start, Run, type CMD and click OK.
Type cd\ and hit enter.
type cacls recycler, hit enter, and copy/paste that information in a reply.

Hi
This is what it says right now, but I have made it work by hitting the services and turning on and off the Norton unerase protection listing in that. I will have to reboot and see what it says after that without me making it work.
C:\>cacls recycler
C:\RECYCLER BUILTIN\Administrators:(OI)(CI)F
NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(OI)(CI)F
FLO1356\Owner:F
CREATOR OWNER:(OI)(CI)(IO)F
BUILTIN\Users:(OI)(CI)R
BUILTIN\Users:(CI)(special access:)
FILE_APPEND_DATA
BUILTIN\Users:(CI)(special access:)
FILE_WRITE_DATA
Norton Protection Tab shows my 3 drives with enable protection checked, empty after 14 days. Global says use one setting for all drives. 20 % usage for each drive. and display delete confirmation is checked off. Now all this is when the recycle bin is working. Before I reboot, there are files listed in the recycle bin. After reboot, when I look at the recycle bin, there are no files showing until I re enable the service for the Norton Unerase protection I believe is the wording listed . I will have to reboot and then give you what it says before I re enable it.

Go to Start, Run, type msconfig and click OK.
Go to the Services tab and check "Hide all Micorosft Services"
Is "Norton UnErase Protection" checked?
Close out and then go to Start > Run > eventvwr and click OK.
Under "Application" look for references to the Norton UnErase Protection service and note any errors.
Under "System" look for errors or warnings associated with Sevice Control Manager and check the details for Norton UnErase.

Please do. All data is needed with the problem present.

This is now after rebooting and without me re enabling the service.
Norton Protection is now not checked off
system can't find cacls recycler now
misconfig still shows Norton Unerase Protection as still running
I still don't see any errors in applications
I still don't see any errors in system having to do with Unerase Protection.
