Norton Removal Tool - Removes Card Readers!

[ Edited ]

Hi :smileyhappy:

A few weeks after I updated my Norton 360 v 1 to Norton 360 v 2 ...

I noticed my 15 in 1 Card Reader had an exclamation mark next to it in Device Manager.

I also noticed that when I used Media Centre - I got an error message saying... Intel Alerts Service has stopped Working!

At that time I wasn't quite sure how these 2 problems had started.

I just had a strong suspicion that it had something to do with my upgrade to Norton 360 v 2 :smileysad:

Although I still can't be certain what caused the problem with my Intel Viiv Software ....

I now know for certain what caused the disappearance of my 15 in 1 card reader - The Norton Removal Tool :smileymad:

A  few days ago I had  to uninstall and reinstall Norton 360 v 2

I had previously reinstalled my 15 in 1 card reader the week before.

Before I used the Norton Removal Tool ........

I decided to just check my Card Reader was still in Device Manager - It Was Fine!

So I used the Norton Removal Tool .... Checked my Card Reader again - It Was Gone! :smileysurprised:

Note!

I still have the problem of - Intel Alerts Service has stopped Working! - When I use Media Center

But like I said above.... I still can't be 100% certain what caused this second problem.

Just a strong suspicion!

If some of you are thinking...."  But she wouldn't have used the Removal Tool to Upgrade to 360 v 2  "

You're right!

I didn't use the Norton Removal Tool, the day I first upgraded to Norton 360 v 2

But don't forget....

There must be a Removal Tool within Norton 360 v 2 ..... For it to be able to take Norton 360 v 1 Out!

It's just a shame the Norton Removal Tool manages to destroy things it shouldn't

And still leave huge bits of Norton 360 behind! :smileymad:

For anyone that finds their preinstalled Card Reader Gone!

Start

Control Panel

Hardware and Sound

Device Manager

Click Continue when UAC pops Up!

Then!

Under the Title - Portable Devices ....

You will see a device called something like Compact Flash  ( Or Another Name ) with a yellow exclamation mark on it.

Right Click the device with the yellow exclamation mark on top of it .... And then click Uninstall

Exit  -  Device manager and Control Panel

Then.....  Restart Your Computer!

Check Device Manager again.... Your Card Reader Should now be Back! :smileyvery-happy:

PS.

I should probably mention.... My Computer is a HP - Vista Home Premium

Just in case this problem is specifically related to either HP or Vista computers.

Re: Norton Removal Tool - Removes Card Readers!

What if  you reinstall your card reader software after installing Norton 360 v2?  As you probably noticed in other threads the problem I had with v2 conflicting with other software, I had to uninstall and reinstall older software after v2 because of that dot Net Framework "software mangler."  It was still no guarantee that things would work doing this.  I found uninstalling the add-on pack got rid of my problems including my mouse with a mind of it's own.

Hi whbos :smileyhappy:

It only seems to happen when removing a Norton 360 product.

e.g..

Either Upgrading to 360 v 2 when 360 v 1 is still installed ...

So  v 2 takes v 1 out - And Card Reader with it :smileysad:

Or when using the Norton Removal Tool :smileymad:

Once the Card Reader is reinstalled it's OK - Well I think it's OK!

I haven't had the chance to put new photo's in yet!

I'm pretty sure either Norton v 2 or the Norton Removal Tool ....

Is responsible for my Media Center problem.  And damaging my Intel Viiv Software :smileymad:

And I'm a bit worried about Roxio and Windows Movie Maker.

When I used CCleaner I only removed Norton stuff - Nothing else!

But it showed me 1 redundant registry key from both Roxio and Movie Maker.

This makes me wonder... Have they been damaged too! :smileysad:

I haven't even had chance to use them yet.

This computer is only 6 months old. And I've spent the last month fighting with Norton 360 v 2 :smileysad:

I should have learnt my lesson when I lost my XP

This really is Norton's last chance!

If the results of the next background Full Scan - look in any way dodgy ... Norton is Out!
