refer to the following thread: http://forums.comcast.com/t5/Security-and-Anti-Vir
Since upgradig to Version 5.xx, I have a problem with the computer being extremely slow and the hard drive running excessively whenever a live update session has started or when launching a program. The product is up to date, howver, any new session of live update, makes the computer virtually un-usable for anywhere form 5 to 30 minutes. I am running Windows XP Professional with 2MB of RAM.
During installation I got an error message 8504, 104, but this has not come up subsequently. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. Removal of the program restores the computer to high performance. I have used the Norton removal tool when doing the uninstall.
[edit: Clarified product.]

Welcome,
I'm not the expert on the ComCast software but I do know that until you have all of the updates downloaded and installed - as you do AND you let the software do a full scan it is going to be hard to live with. Security software likes to know its whole world before it will drop back and watch for 'nasties'. Start a full scan, take a break and when it's finished see if your performance isn't back to 'normal'
Stay well and surf safe

Thank you - I have done that and done a full scan. It is still horribly slow. I have a laptop running the same software - slower processor, and it is nothing like what I am living with on this machine. I had the prior version of Norton/Comcast and did not have this problem.

I don't think you should be having this problem with this version!
I want to go outside the box and suggest that you download, install, update and run Malwarebytes free scanner found here:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_
It's compatible with your current security software so keep it handy for when you want a second opinion.
Let us know if that helps. The light's always on

Thanks Dick. I did as you suggested. Malwarebytes did not detect any malware.

Hi,
Sorry I've struck out so far. I just ran through the whole thread and I don't remember seeing your OS information. I also didn't see how you installed the new version. The book says that the new version should install over the old version without any problem. Some users, like you, have reported problems when doing that.
Try doing a control panel uninstall, reboot and reinstall. Be sure to save your identity safe data BEFORE you start any of this!!!
Also, be sure to run live update and reboot until the program tells you that all of the updates have been downloaded and installed.
If that doesn't work then I'm going to have to get out the BIG bug squasher. ![]()

I agree. But as you can read there is a problem. Do you have a suggested solution?
