Re: Norton Utilities 15 Run Error

Hi Eric: I'm still experiencing the "Windows Installer" screen every time I open NU 15. I'm not sure what you mean by your question: "We'll need to know what actions have been done by NU in order to pinpoint what has happened." The NU15 program runs fine after waiting for the Windows Installer screen closes. I hope I've made it clear that the NU15 program does not run through the entire install process each time I start it. Here's what happens: From what I see is after the small Norton NU15 screen opens on my desktop the small "Windows Installer" (WI) screen appears over top of the NU15 screen. The computer runs for about 10 seconds showing the WI screen, there seems to be a short "hic-up" (for lack of a better explanation), then another 10 seconds or so the WI screen closes and the NU15 program opens up on my desktop. I'm using the downloaded version of NU 15 that was purchased as a package with NIS 2012 from your online store. I followed all the install instructions as the install program ran. While I'm waiting for your response I'll download another copy of NU 15, uninstall my current copy & then install again. I've tried to attach a jpg file to this message but it doesn't work. It shows what I see on the desktop when the NU15 first starts.

Re: Norton Utilities 15 Run Error

After the next time you see the installer box open please do the following:

Start > Run > eventvwr

Check the Applications and System views for any "Installer" references around the time that you saw this.  If you do, copy the details of that particular event(s) and we'll move from there.  What we need to determine is what is missing that the Installer thinks they need to repair when you open NU.  Please let me know if you have any questions about this.

Re: Norton Utilities 15 Run Error

Hi Eric: This is what I saw per your request: "Detection of Product" (91130409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9), Feature "ProductNonBootFiles" failed during request for Component (22506900-11D1-A0DD-00A0C9054277). I'm not sure if they are number "zero" or letter "O" but I guess that doesn't matter. I tried to copy & paste but no luck.

Re: Norton Utilities 15 Run Error

That product GUID is associated with Microsoft Office.  Those are zeroes.  The number is Hexadecimal (base 16) which counts 0-9 and then A-F.  What I would do to try and address this would be to re-run the Office installer and choose "Repair."

Re: Norton Utilities 15 Run Error

Hi Eric: SOrry for the delay in responding but I'm experincing more errors (windows installer screen) while trying to start MS Outlook program. I've tried reinserting the Office 2003 disc but not able to run it due to another different error... again not too tech savey. I'm not sure what to do now? I reinstalled Norton System 12 & ran it showing over 1,000 problems. Not sure if those were created during the time I ran all of the NU 15 scans but if not than what? I'll keep trying... back soon... thx again.

Re: Norton Utilities 15 Run Error

The technology in SystemWorks is very old, so I don't know.  Thank you for giving an update.

Re: Norton Utilities 15 Run Error

Hi Eric: Second time writing this message because after writing & using your "spell check" option I received an error message & lost my original document. After another week or so I took some advise and scrapped my computer & started over. I've doubled my storage space & increased my ram to 4GB. Dropped Norton's NIS 2012 & NU 15 & Windows XP SP3. I then installed Vista Business SP2 and MS Essentials. Every things running great... for now... Thanks for all your help & time spent answering my messages.
