Norton utilities - problems after running it

I  recently purchased Norton Utilities and ran it on my older PC as it claimed to make it 'like new'. Unfortunately it seems to have wiped all my logins and passwords and many of the sites I visit regularly, such as my ISP home page; Ebay and BBC News appear different - with the usual layout all broken up; 'simplified' and difficult to read. Drop down menus on sites I use regularly, such as Ebay, have also disappeared.

All in all I'm very disappointed and annoyed and don't want to run the software on any other machines in the house until I know this can be reversed. Alternatively I want my money back as it might have made my computer better on the inside, but on the pages I view regularly, it is a very sickly patient indeed!

Can anyone help/offer advice. Tried to call Norton directly but can't find a number on their site.

Thanks.

Welcome,

Sorry to read of your problem. The thing that NU removed are the 'cookies'. These are small text files which the Internet site places in your computer so that when you return it can pick up where you left off. It is possible to configure NU to ignore these cookies but I'm afraid that it is impossible to recover them.

You don't mention where you are located so I can't suggest possible local sites to assist you in resolving the balance of your problem. The customer support chat line is usually the easiest and fastest way to get help.

Thanks for the response - pity I didn't know about the cookies removal beforehand - I might not have bothered with it!

Sorry, some lessons are just a bit harder to learn. Maybe some day we will get a setup sheet that you have to read before you can install the software. That might prevent a few errors.
