Problems with Norton Bootable Recovery Disk

Hi all...

I'm looking for help to get the bootable recovery tool working

I downloaded the NBRD tool and when I run the wizard, I get the first screen asking for the kind of media to choose - "Create a CD/DVD Media" , "Create an ISO file" etc.

When I select the media type, I then get the next screen as normal - "specify drive" "add drivers" "choose language"

I make sure the settings are right and then click next and I then get the following popup box - "Please connect to the internet to download virus definitions"

I know there is an internet connection and Norton Internet security 2010 is working and up to date.

I get this message regardless of the media type I choose

what can I do!!?

Hi Srfergo: Are you using anything special with your Internet setup like a proxy? I also notice you use NIS 2010. Does it automatically make rules for NBRT Wizard? It needs Internet access to do it.

Re: Problems with Norton Bootable Recovery Disk

Hi

No, nothing special for internet.  its just a home PC and I know the internet was working as I had literally just finished downloading the installer for the NBRD!

I've never had any problems with the NIS 2010 rules wizard so not sure

I do suspect I have a deep rooted virus that neither the power eraser nor 2010 finds normally.  often the machine will boot ok but norton wont start and I struggle to get an internet browser session to run.  the only way to get norton to run is to boot into safe mode with networking and run the norton scan and power eraser from there but they found nothing

the machine does sometimes boot happily so I wanted to make the recovery disk then but I'm still struggling!

Try making it on another computer.

It doesn't need to be made on the computer you have Norton installed on, or the one you need to scan.

I can make it on another computer?  I though the whole point was that it used drivers from my existing computer!!

ok, that will make things easier!

Rarely you ever need to that. You might need the network drivers you want to download updates in the booted NBRT. Since you're using Wizard to make a bootable NBRT and then booting it, then you should already have all the updates. ;)
