I am trying to figure out how I can gain permission to c:/programdata/Nortin and ect inside of the norton folder. My issue is I have 2 computer one with norton and one without. I am placing norton on the new computer and have it all setup fine. But I want to move the updated definitions from my updated computer to the new one. I am trying to place the updated definitions from computer a to computer b and when I try to it gives me the you do not have permission ect. Anyone know how this can be done donwloading 90mb on dial up is beyond frustrating.
Windows Vista btw

Hi,
moving the definition files will not solve your problem, as many regisitry keys should be installed on the other machine as well.
Can you tell me which Norton product and version do you use?
If you do not use the 2011 version, you can upgrade to it free in the Norton Update Center: www.norton.com/nuc
Downloading from the update center uses a downloader program, which downloads you the latest definitions as well. This way you get NAV ~100, and NIS ~ 110 MB (the definition file is the bigest one, it's ~70MB).

Hello PapauZ
That's still a large download when using a dial up connection which is slow.

Product Name: Norton Security SuiteVersion: 4.2.0.12

Product Name: Norton Security Suite
I believe its 2010? The issue with updating to 2011 and why I have not is because of the size of files and the time invested. I have huge issues with being disconnected constaly at this present time. I would be willing to do the most complex thing possible to be able to transfer the right updated virus defs to the new norton file on the new computer. It's just I have already went through the tedious time of attempting to get updated on this computer I do not think I could even remotely stand doing that update all over again on a seperate computer. Thanks for any help

Hello Endity
You can only get Comcast Norton Security Suite through the Comcast website if you are a current customer of Comcast. I think this is something that needs to be addressed by Comcast. Are you going to be on 56k for a long period of time? The location of Comcast files may be diffferent than the location of the regular Norton Internet Security program. It may even be different than compared to N360 since it is a Comcast version.

Yes I will be for about 4 months. I am just trying to figure out how to bypass the stupid Permission stuff. tbh :( It absolutely will not allow me to edit them in any way just gives permission denied. I am admin and have forced the file to me as owner. I have done every available step I could research online :(

You can try to temporarely turn off the Norton product's Tamper Protection (it's in the administrative settings), overwrite the files, and then turn Tamper back. But I'm not sure if this will work. It is highly possible that after this you need to redownload all of the definition files....
