Earlier in the year, maybe January '08 or December '07, I renewed my subscription for Norton Antivirus 2006 edition using the online method. Some time later, instead of the normal green check mark on the windows bottom tool bar there was a yellow triangle with the symbol '!'. Clicking on the icon brings up a pop up stating "Attention Required" - 1 item is affecting your status - show details (Run Full System Scan - your computer has not been scanned for viruses and other risks. - Click Fix Now to repair selected items.) Clicking Fix Now changes the pop up to a blue '>>' symbol stating "Fixing Problems" - Fixing 1 of 1 problems - Please wait while these items are fixed - (Running Full System Scan - Fixing...). After around 1 second of this screen it reverts back to the original pop up of "Attention Required" etc etc. It would do this every time a 'Fix Now' was attempted. Back when the issue first came up I had done various methods to try and fix the problem through the troubleshooting page and online forums but was unsuccessful. I since then have stopped trying as I do not really use the internet much on this laptop - it's mainly for typing reports and formatting school work to be turned in. Now as school is winding to a close, I am focusing more attention on solving the issue. So I am posting here for any insight.
I somewhat recall in one of the "random forums visited / possible ways to fix this error pages I had looked at" in the past saying something about needing the CD to reinstall something. I did not try that way then as I did and do not have the CD. Perhaps, though, the problem is much much more easier to fix than that. Hence, this post. Any thoughts?

This computer was purchased last year, I think around January / February '07. At that time, we purchased the 2006 Antivirus software. If there is some free upgrade from '06 to '08 I could do that. I don't "surf" much so I am really not up-to-date about such things. Though, to be fair, I did search for a very short while, before I registed an account on these forums, about any free upgrades from '06 to '07 and turned up some upgrades that were not free (I think 19.95).

hi Jamoah - from what i've read, upgrades from 2006 and 2007 to 2008 are free with a valid and active subscription - you can download it from here.
