I used Partition Magic 8.01 to merge two partitions on a laptop, but during the process the program aborted because it found a bad sector. No changes were made, it said, but now the previous D-partition is gone (the space on the disk is reported as unallocated).
Unfortunately no backup were made in advance. How can I get back the data, of which most still is somewhere on the disk, I presume. Anyone kwow any programs or tools I can use to retrieve the partition or at least most of the data?

Win XP SP2
Update: I've read this article on data recovery, and TestDisk didn't work, at least not the easy way (it says, among other things: "test_logical: Partition sector doesn't have the endmark 0xAA55").
I've now scanned the disk with the program GetDataBack, and it at least finds the file structures (and also reports several bad sectors). I'll try to copy over the files later to see if they're actually intact.
