Just in the last week, after getting maintance both from microsoft and for Norton Utilities, defrag operations stall and do not complete. If a stop and than start again seems to go to different point sometimes sooner sometimes later, but actually fairly early in the process. Usually doesn't even get to the point where it starts moving anything. Had in stop initializing, in anyalyze

Hi,
Do you also have a Windows task to run defrag which might be in conflict with the Norton Speedisk? They both do the same thing and W7 has defrg on auto. Might try disabling Speedisk and let just the Windows utility do the job and see how that works.

Certainly, but don't want to switch back to microsoft's version.
Found a hint on the log when it have it just do files. Apparently speed disk is mistakenly thinking the system is going to full screen mode and pauses the defrag. I have changed the options in setting to not pause on full screen, and for now defrag is working again.
So sort of bug on detecting full screen mode.

Hi,
Not sure what the objection to the windows defrag utility is but it and Speedisk do the same job in about the same fashion.
Regardless, glad you have found the solution and all is well. Please mark the thread as 'solved' so that others will not come by and try to assist.
