Rebooted and i get the preparing desktop then blue screen.
A drive letter issue. So the new HD is internal and the old HD has been removed from the computer? All USB HDs have been disconnected.
Boot into Safe Mode
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del when you see "Preparing your Desktop"
Click Start Task Manager
Applications tab, New task
Type "regedit" (without the "") and put a tick in Create this task with administrative privileges.
Locate the following registry key:
Select all keys in the right hand pane and press Delete on the keyboard
Close Registry Editor and Windows Task Manager
Shutdown computer using the power button
Power on. Vista should boot and assign drive letters.

Boot from the Ghost 15 CD
Open Command Shell Window
Type "regedit" (without the "") and press Enter
Click to Select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Click File, Load Hive
Click the drop down arrow in "Look in"
You will see your Windows partition has a non C: drive letter. Lets say the drive letter is F:
Browse to F:\Windows\System32\config
Select SYSTEM and click Open
In Key Name type "letter"
Click the + next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE in the left pane
Click the + next to "letter" in the left pane
Select MountedDevices in the "letter" group
Press Delete on the keyboard
Select "letter" in the left hand pane
Click File, Unload Hive
Close Registry Editor and the Command Window
Exit Ghost 15 and remove the CD
Boot into Windows
