i read the other posts on peoples computers freezing when running ghost - i had the same issue.
I did not install norton 260 or ghost - what i did do was (and it worked).
Ghost did work the first time I used it and performed the backup to my external HD.
To get it to work again I:
1) Went to setting in my 360 and turned off all the checkboxes (make sure you are not using internet at the time to avoid viruses - and select the option to have them come back on when u reboot so you don't forget to have them reset)
2) I created a new backup job in ghost and gave it a new location on my external HD and then ran it - SUCCESS!!!
I will rely on 360 for my incrementals and just do ghost whenever i have major changes to save and do a complete "ghost" of my computer.
I am somewhat disappointed in Norton / Symantec for some of the hoops you have to jump through when using their software. You sometimes have to be fairly astute at figuring out computer problems when using their products. Perhaps they should put more effort in diagnostics to aid the consumer.
Thanks to everyone who posted - it gave me ideas and direction.
Also - why can't norton include ghost in the 360 product? I may look around to see if anyone else does a complete package.
Of course I wish microsoft wasn't so cheap and they would allow "ghosting" with their operating system in the home versions.

Welcome,
I do not have any hard and firm solutions for you but I think you found a way to minimize the conflict. Both 360 and Ghost do backups. The package in 360 is designed for the user who is not as interested in playing with the product as they are with being able to use their computer with a minimum of risk and a maximum of performance. Ghost is a full featured backup program that might cause 360 users to give up. Also, it doesn't have any of the other features that make 360 what it is.
The backup engines of 360 and Ghost are almost the same and can conflict. This is why your solution of turning off 360 to use Ghost works. Ghost won't bother 360 unless you schedule it to run while 360 is active.
I'm not sure why you can't have an incremental backup set and a second full set in 360 and set their schedules for the frequency you desire. You can continue doing as you outlined just remember that they store differently and so can't be restored by the other program.
Maybe some help

thx Dick - yep, I understand they are separate packages and u must use the one that u created either the ghost image or the incremental backup to restore. One of my questions (and I am assuming that if your hard drive crashed and u had to restore EVERYTHING including the OS that only ghost would be the tool to use) was why can't 360 have the ghost option in it - that way it could make sure that the other capability was not running while it did its thing - then no conflicts :)

There are two Symantec products that are essential in this day and age,
1. NIS which will more than offer protection when browsing the internet, sending email etc.and
2. Ghost- which will copy the computer and enable a recovery if the worst scenario happened and you had a major hard drive failure.
Microsoft provide a very good firewall so long as definitions are regularly updated.
I see no reason what so ever to have N360 installed as well unless you need to store your data in the "Clouds". that option is the only extra added to N360 that NIS hasn't got.
Having said that Ghost runs alongside N360 quite happily and unlike the author's comments I believe there are no hoops to jump through as he puts it to confidently use Symantec software.
I have been a Ghost user for many years and a security software user so I honestly can't see a problem unless you are asking the software to do what it is not designed to do.

Eh? What firewall definitions? I think you mean Windows Defender (Anti malware) or Microsoft Security Essentials (Anti virus + Anti malware) need to keep the definitions updated. I've been running MSE for a couple of years now, and I think it works great. It updates the definitions daily plus I can do it manually if I want. I'm not sure if Windows Defender updates automatically though. I think it does through Windows Update.

Ron,
I don't have the 'official' answer to your question but I do know that one product is designed for the user to 'set and forget'. While the other is for the tech aware to have greater control over the product which is most likely runniing on a more complex system.
Hope this helps
