Re: Norton security suite from comcast

[ Edited ]

bmaslank: Hi one thing I learned while I tried cnss and perused the comcast forums...it really helps to uninstall comcast tool bar and any others. Also as yank said uninstall mcafee by running removal tool and not running more then one live security.

Also having a look at your start up programs with cnss software and eliminating what isnt needed on start up will help.

If I understand you correctly. your ran the McAfee removal tool after you installed Norton.  If that is the case, I would suggest you uninstall Norton using the Add/remove programs function and then run the Norton Removal Tool ( twice) followed by a reboot after each run of the NRT.  Then go here and click on Get It Now.  This will provide you with a fresh download of Version 4 of the CNSS.  After it has finished installing, manually run Liveupdate as many times as neccssary for it to reply "no updates availabe".   The left click on  Help and Support on the main CNSS screen and hover over the ABOUT - it should say Veriosn 4.1.0.32.

Please post back with results.

Re: Norton security suite from comcast

Since I installed Norton for Comcast the "location" of my comcast home page is defaulting to Philadelphia PA. No matter how many times I change it the next time I sign on it's back to Philly. What do I have turned off/on wrong??? It's a little thing but it's the little things that really bug you isn't it.

Re: Norton security suite from comcast

Hello bmaslank

Before trying an uninstall and reinstall of Comcast Norton Security Suite, I would recommend a full scan with the free versioin of Malwarebytes. If that comes out clean, then I would proceed with the uninstall of CNSS  and the use of the Norton removal tool 2 times with a reboot after each run of it. Then get a fresh download from Comcast to install CNSS again.

You can get Malwarebytes from here.

Download the free version, install and update then run a FULL scan. After the scan completes you should post the logs back to this thread.

You can find Malwarebytes here

http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/

It is a safer location to get the program from than malwarebytes themselves because some malware creators have large lists of sites that they block. Please be careful to down load the correct program ----the FREE version of MALWAREBYTES

(Thanks to Delph for providing the alternative site)

Please come back and let us know if Malwarebytes found anything. Thanks.

Success always occurs in private and failure in full view.

Molly M: I think you need to log into comcasts settings page and set your location but Im not sure. Online chat tech support with comcast will help you with that Im sure.

In any case a seperate post would be in order for this topic since it isnt a norton thing Id sign up and post to comcast discussion boards under security.  Good luck.

But did you specifically use the removal tool ? As yank stated its really important you used the removal tool after basic uninstall. See yanks prev reply.

Also do you run any other live security ?  Starting up with a low start up load helps too, not running to many programs on start up I mean that you arent using immediately.

Youre in good hands I will be on my way...good luck.

Re: norton security suite from comcast

I just got NSS from Comcast. Prior to that, I had been using several separate products (Avira AV, Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, etc.).  I still do scans with SuperAntiSpyware, and it frequently finds a cookie by the name of "invitemedia[2].txt" that NSS does not detect.

Question is, is this a tracking cookie or not?  If so, how does one get Symantec to add it to their definitions file?

Hi KNRover

It is part of Google's cookie empire. See this web article
