Do you ever try to copy data from optical disc in two ways/threads?
1 thread and copy speed is 10-20 MBytes/sec
2 threads and copy speed of each one is 150 kbytes/sec + noise increase in 25-30 dB
Am I first who tell you that?
Cause of positioning time of all optical drives is about 120-180 miliseconds and only 1 read head.
Norton scans optical drives in multithread method. wrong method! change it right now!
such a good methods to kill optical drive (time of mechanism usage) and user's silence - it sounds loudly.
Symantec can be professional if not to spam users mostly with ad about their products only but to think and to test in using their products under real conditions (I mean improvements and threats detection, termination and removal also).
Let everybody write me here or a PM if I am wrong. You are welcome.

Huh?

The following option controls the number of threads that NIS uses during a manual scan:
Settings > Computer > Computer Scan > Number of Threads for Manual Scan
The default value for this setting is 'Auto'. What Niko233 is suggesting is that NIS should automatically override that value and make it '1' when NIS detects that the scan target is an optical drive. The scan will be more efficient and will complete much faster when only 1 thread is used to scan optical media.
