Norton Internet Security restart after update

Periodically I run a manual update for Norton Internet Security 2012.

Sometimes after the update runs it says it needs to restart my computer.

I would never know my computer needed a restart just relying on automatic updates.

I think the product should be updated to tell the user that the computer needs to be restarted as soon as it is required, either through a pop-up or a flashing icon in the system tray, or both.

Fantastic idea. I also run live update manually each day. That is the only time I know for sure when a reboot is required. I support the idea fully. Is Symantec listening

I am new to this, but it seems your 'reboot' /restart topic, and your understanding might help me undrstand the power options settings on my pc.. control panel. I undrstood that when i checked automatic udates and set it a 3 am, nightly, and 'turn off monitor in 30 min. standby after and hour and hibernate after 2..Does the computer takes itself out of 'hibernation/standby' automatically.. so If it does, would it not automatically be a 'reboot'/ restart' and I understood that the 'test'/ scans' run on my system w/ prem edition 360 were also 'automatic'.. do those setting override what aperson has chosen under power options? I know this is pretty basic to most everyone but, Iam confused.. seems my pc is running very high /whining for a considerable time after power up.currently by physically T-on, push power.. do I have to run them while I am on the Internet? KateG

Hi Mike 1776,

The restart message you get after NIS updates is purely as a result of needing to fully activate one or more of the downloaded NIS updates (usually when Norton updates the main NIS program itself). It doesn't mean your computer needs to be restarted because of some other problem with it (not associated with NIS). NIS can't detect all problems with your computer that might need you to restart it (e.g. problems with device drivers, other applications, etc) - NIS is just an internet security product.
