If I put in shortened URLs into Safe Web, it only checks the first level site, not the site I would eventually visit if actually entered the URL into my browser.  For instance, if I check: bit.ly/12345, it checks the bit.ly site, not the 3gp.fm site that the link actually goes to.  This gives a false sense of security about these types of URLs.

Even better, Safe Web should show the security rating of all the forwarded sites that one might encounter if they just enter a URL.  So if bit.ly/12345 goes through six other sites automatically on its way to 3gp.fm, it should rate each of those intermediate sites as well.

I'm all for that idea! Please add to Norton Internet Security. Would be a great thing for twitter users.

To add on to this, Norton should have a safe site rating icon (green checkmark, orange exclamation mark, grey question mark, red x mark) right beside the shortened link. LIke this:

And If the shortened URL takes you through multiple sites before visiting the destination it should show a different icon to distinguish that along with a green, yellow, red, or grey icon to show you the overall safety rating. This would be viewable before scrolling over and clicking "full report"  for a full summary.

I assume that you are typing the URL in the Safeweb page. http://safeweb.norton.com/? If so, then it will give the rating of the URL you entered and it will not follow the redirected link. When you browse to the site (e.g., bit.ly/12345), then it will be giving the rating of landing page.
