Re: Sandbox

there are some issues with a sandboxed solution.

- First of all threats can detect sandboxed environments and not show the malicious behavior, which beats the purpose of a sandbox.

- Performance may significantly deteriorate when running in a sandbox.

- from a usability perspective it may be troublesome too, if the user has to take extra steps to enable running this app in a sandbox environment.  I believe most of the user would prefer to use the application in their regular environment and feel that they are protected but you may prove me wrong in this forum :-)

Re: Sandbox

Hi Athena,

I see your points.

True but the malware won't work as well

- Performance may significantly deteriorate when running in a sandbox.

I have tried several sandbox apps and never felt any slowdown. I guess the great developers at Symantec could create that too

When you take a look at all the security forums you will see most users like a sandboxed environment. Therefore most vendors do create one in the products. In my opinion Symantec will miss the boat when they do not start creating a sandbox.

Re: Sandbox

Some competitors have already added a sandbox to their av program. I use Sandboxie but if Norton were to implement a sandbox that works well I would more than happily remove Sandboxie. This should, of course, be turned off by default.

Re: Sandbox

I don't know if this is something I'd want in the app either.  A lot of applications are starting to use sandboxing technology on their own;  Not sure I want a sandbox inside a sandbox and assume performance won't be impacted.
