Adobe Reader X has been released. This version uses sandboxing technology to enhance security. Watch out for that McAfee Security Scan Plus program in the upper right corner that will be included in your download if you do not deselect it.

why would they just have updated Reader 9 and then now come out with reader X a few days later?
So is the recommendation to go from Reader 9 to Reader X? Like if one didi not have Adobe Reader, then went to adobe to download it, they would now get reader X?
So should one uninstall Reader 9 and the instal readr X to have the latest ADOBE Reader?

Hi Calls
Updating your current Adobe Reader 9.4.1 will, as you suspect, not get you to Adobe Reader X. Uninstall your current reader and then download and install Reader X from www.adobe.com.

Hi Calls,
Adobe Reader X has been in development for some time and was scheduled for release in Q4. Adobe Reader 9 is still supported and, as you know, had some security vulnerabilities that needed patching. Just as Microsoft released Windows 7 but still supports XP and Vista, Adobe also continues to update existing products even as new ones are made available. If you want Reader X you should uninstall Adobe Reader 9 in Add/Remove Programs, reboot, and then install the new version from the Adobe website. Because of the way Adobe has been targeted in the past by malware purveyors, the new Protected Mode, which sandboxes the program, seems like a very good reason to do the upgrade.

The SANS Internet Storm Center is advising users to install Adobe Reader X for the enhanced security provided by the built-in sandbox.

I went directly to Adobe, downloaded and installed the X version overtop of the 9.4 version. The older version was removed cleanly and the new version installed without issue on two Win 7 machines. Some users may have to uninstall the older one first if there are problems with the installation.
