Re: Buying a new computer advice

Gah!!! Dell have supply shortage and my monitor will only begin to manufacture on December 5!  :smileymad: Planning of canceling it and getting a HP Monitor HP2311x instead.

This delay have left a bitter taste in my mouth and is putting me off from buying Dell.

Re: Buying a new computer advice

That HP monitor is a very nice one and on my shopping list since my CRT is on its way out -- one of the colors intermittent intensity and there's no-one left around to resolder the color card !

I missed a Staples offer of that monitor for $99 a week or so ago ... down from $219 - $199

Soif you can get it at a decent price I'd go for it. I''ve seen it in stores and it's a nice picture.

Is it a matte screen?

Re: Buying a new computer advice

I'm not sure -- check it out in a store. I would not buy a monitor or a laptop without seeing it in a store and preferably buying it from a store with a good return policy.

Here's HP's web page on it

http://www.shopping.hp.com/product/display/display/1/storefronts/XP598AA%2523ABA

and here's the pdf detailed specification:

Note that those are for the US spec so you may want to check the UK webstie.

Unfortunately none of the stores carry that monitor.

Re: Buying a new computer advice

Hi again mikedov

The HP Monitor HP2311x is available in PCW stores in the U/K and are currentlt in stock in many branches.

I have seen the 21 " and 23 " models on display and can vouch for the image quality and especially the depth of the blacks which some screens are let down by !

Not this model though ...excellent across the spectrum and a really fine display quality .I cannot vouch for the fact regarding the gloss or matte finish of the screen though ! A phone call to a local branch should answer that point for you !

None of the spec sheets actually mention this specific point . If it is a feature that you prefer over the glossy screens ...then a confirmation by the store will clear that up for you .

As hugh said . actually seeing a monitor "doing its thing "  is a big point that I always consider before making a final selection :smileyhappy:

[ Edited ]

I see bleeper has given you a pointer --

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/hp-2311x-23-led-backlit-monitor-11261932-pdt.html

or you could call lHP in Wokingham and ask for dealers in your area -- or on the HP UK website where this monitor is listed as Business - Value series you can ask for where to buy and put in your area code .......

If that is not glossy and glossy is what you want then have a look at Samsung:

SAMSUNG S23A300B High Glossy Black 23" 5ms Full HD LED BackLight LCD

although it does not have the hdmi input that you might want.

You'll have to do your own search for where to find it -- google works wonders ....

Ah well my dad has decided to wait for the Dell order after all. And that Dell monitor does look more appealing. I will update you with the final configuration of my pc.

CRT? I thought I was behind when I got a LCD monitor 4 years ago. BTW, I have a Samsung P2570HD and love it.
