Re OfficeAV.dll:
This file is interfering with Microsoft Word, and Microsoft recommends deleting it.
But even though I have administrative authority, I'm refused access to the file. I'm not being allowed to remove the read-only attribute, to delete the file, move it or rename it.
How do I delete or disable this file?
I use a PC with Windows XP Home Edition. I use NIS 2012 (19.7.0.9).

Check the settings for the Microsoft Office scan. Settings - Computer - Computer Scan, then click on the green button to the right of Microsoft Office Automatic Scan to turn ot off.
If you delete the .dll, you might mess up the NIS installation and cause more problems than you are now having.

I checked, and it was already turned off.
I'd like to try deleting or disabling the DLL file to see whether it cures the problem in Word. I can always replace it if it fails or causes additional problems.

I'm sure the KB ariticle you saw is many years old and no longer applies.
If you have the setting disabled then it's not being used. However, if you really want to verify it I'm sure it's the "Norton Product Tamper Protection" that is stopping you from removing it.
Look for that setting and turn it off temporarily, then just rename the .dll file to OfficeAV.old and reboot your system.
Please do so at your own risk of possibily needing to reinstall your Norton product.

Yes, you were right. I temporarily renamed the dll and after restarting it still made no difference. Many thanks. Back to the drawing board.

Peanut Gallery here;
After renaming it was it still 'read only' and were you able to remove that attribute?
Also, have you tried going in from the CMD prompt to delete it?
