The computer is hooked up to a power bar.

When the computer power is turned on by the power bar there

is a green light on the back of the power supply that is not  very bright..

After waiiting 15 seconds the light get brighter.

Then when the power button is pushed the computer will start.

Before that it will not.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

     It seems like a loose connection in the Front Panel. If you're still inside the warranty period please take the Computer to the Service Center and check. If you've much knowledge in Hardware troubleshooting please remove the Front panel connections in the Motherboard and then reconnect them again properly and check otherwise please contact a local Technician or a friend who can give a helping hand.

Have you tried bypassing the powerbar and plugging direct into the wall socket of UPS if you are using one.

If your powerstrip has a surge protector in it the MOS in them can fail and if you are using a UPS unit you should not use the output via a powerstrip that has surge protection in it.

That 3000 goes back to 2006 I fear so no warranty left .... but Lenovo does have excellent support on their website often including field service manuals that tell you exactly how to replace field replaceable units (FRU's).

no problems on that one.

Do you believe its the motherboard or power supply.

can purchade one for 50 dollars and replace it myself.

Have you plugged the faulty computer into the direct source of power was my question. Your test does not tell one what one wants to know -- that the PC is capable of working correctly under some circumstances and not others eg slightly low voltage .....

I would be more likely to suspect the power supply unit than the motherboard since the light on the PSU is changing according to what you say. But I would check out every scrap of information you can get on the Lenovo website before spending money and I would use a voltmeter on the PSU output if I was able to do that safely.

Otherwise take it to a small PC builder/repair shop -- not one of the box stores.

Changed the power supply.

Computer  starts ok.
