Errors and Warnings

Hi

I am new to this forum and hope to be able to contribute to conversations and learn and understand my computer security.

I joined becauseI my partner received a phone call last night. It was from a company called Microtech (not 100% sure on this) and an Indian lady told her that our computer was under serious threat because they said my computer had errors and warnings. She got my partner to press the widows key then look at the computer then right click on computer then left click on Manage then click on Event viewer where she directed her to errors and warnings list.

She then asked if we wanted to get their systems department to help us fix this or our computer would crash.

My partner advised them that we had the latest Nortons instaled. They replied that this did not protect us from these errors and warnings crashing our computer.

My partner was very sus by this time and asked them to email us and we would contact them. They advised her that they had allotted the time now and don't email. My partner then refused their help.

My questions is are these errors and warrnings going to do what she told us and what are these errors and warnings telling us ???

Welcome Robert,

You are correct. This is a known scam we see here often.  Never allow the bugger's access to your computer - just hang up.  I recently received a call from a private number.  They said they "were from Windows,  you,  computers."  In my case the person had an Asian accent.

Just don't entertain them.

Be careful out there.

Dave.

PS.  The errors you may see in Event Viewer are not malware or viruses.  We all have these.  Have a read tthrough this article for more info.  -  http://ask-leo.com/what_is_the_event_viewer_and_should_i_care.html

Re: Errors and Warnings

Thank you so much for your reply and the link to look at. After reading through this link I now understand what the event viewer is and and what it contains.

I am glad we didn't let them in, but it is so disheartening to know that there are people out there who take advantage of amature computer users like me.

Again TANKS.

Re: Errors and Warnings

You"re welcome!  These bugger's will sometimes try and fool you in to believing they are Microsoft Tech Team too.  Microsoft do not cold call and do not know if our systems are infected or not.  If you smell a rat,  it is probably a rat.
