Re: NEW JAVA 7 UPDATE 7 SECURITY UPDATE

Hello

I just got it. I came here to post the announcement, but I see you beat me to it. Of course, I noticed the McAfee scan also. Thanks. Darn, still getting that javascript error when I try and use the smilies.

Success always occurs in private and failure in full view.

Re: NEW JAVA 7 UPDATE 7 SECURITY UPDATE

Hi floplot I just checked at majorgeeks.com yesterday afternoon and noticed the release of the new version of java I knew of the security problem that java had and was looking for the fix when I came across the update. Java is getting about as bad with problems like adobe flash player is.  As for your java script error you are getting I will look around for a fix if there is one.

Re: NEW JAVA 7 UPDATE 7 SECURITY UPDATE

Yes, as always, thanks for keeping everyone aware. I've updated too, but, honestly, I'm disabling the JAVA plugins in Firefox, and I'm seriously considering just uninstalling it in the near future. I don't think I'll miss it.

It's a shame that it took the apparent mass exposure of the critical flaw that was being exploited to get this fix out. Oracle has been aware of it since April!. As I've read, there were around 30 or so vulnerabilities reported to them and we don't currently know how many of them were fixed with this latest update.

And speaking of Flash... the latest version did indeed fix the losing focus issue, and it's been working fine for me UNTIL this morning. Now the main Norton Forums page with the Flash video on the right is crashing Flash every time I go there. It also crashed on every Mozilla page with Flash that I went to. I'm not happy, nor do I understand what has happened. The only thing that's different on my computer this morning is the new version of JAVA, which I've already disabled.:smileyfrustrated:

Re: NEW JAVA 7 UPDATE 7 SECURITY UPDATE

I apologize if this is a stupid question, but if I don't have Java installed on my computer, does that mean I also don't have a Java plug-in?  I am confused with all this Java stuff--Java, Java plug-in and Java script.  Java script is on my ipad but I don't know if it is on my windows desktop.

Sorry again for the stupid question.

Now the update needs an update...

I uninstalled Java today and so far haven't noticed that it is necessary for anything I do.

Re: NEW JAVA 7 UPDATE 7 SECURITY UPDATE

Thanks for the tip! PCWorld seems to be down right now, but I found an article here: http://arstechnica.com/security/2012/08/critical-bug-discovered-in-newest-java/ about it.

That's it for me. I'm uninstalling JAVA completely in just a minute.

Java and JavaScript are different and are not connected in any way. Some idiot just used a similar name. Java is the problem and if it is not installed on your PC then you are fine. The Java plug-in is part of the Java package and you should not have it if you don't have Java.
