Hey everyone:
I am searching around some posts but I would like a definitive answer as to the similarities of the AV engines in NAV, NIS and 360 (current releases.) For example, does NAV and NIS 2012 use the same AV technology that 360 does?
Also, how does the FW in 360 v5 differ from the one in NIS 2012?
Thanks!

Hi,
Is that all you want? Just the keys to the kingdom? Be careful one of the staff might take you up on it and then they would have to eliminate you.![]()

Hello Atomic
NAV and NIS 2012 use a newer antivirus engine than N360 version 5. N360 version 5 is based on the antivirus engines from 2011 since N360 new version gets released in the spring time where as NAV and NIS get released around Sept. When N360 version 6 gets released in the spring, then it will be similar to the Antivirus engines used in the 2012 products.
N360 is not as tweakable as the NAV and NIS products are. It is designed more for the person who wants to install the program and forget about it almost.
The firewall in N360 version 5 will be more like the one from NIS 2011.
I don't use N360, so I don't have the actual specifics.
Success always occurs in private and failure in full view.

It is just the extra functions, and the different configurable options they differ from each other. I'm sure Symantec would not rewrite everything always for the 3 products. When they finish the AV part it will be included into NIS, when NIS is ready its parts will get into 360.
Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 x64 Hungarian, Norton 360 v20.4.0.40, Norton Utilities 16, Symantec System Recovery 2013

NIS and NAV 2011 and 360v5 all have the save AV engine.
If you want to get technical, the 360 beta actually has a more current AV engine than the 2012 products at this point.
It started with the same engine but minor fixes and any bugs found in the 2012 releases are fixed and tested in the 360 beta before updates are released to the other products. If you check some of the known issues for the 2012 products you may find that some have already been corrected in the beta and are going through the testing process. (like the false positives using safe mode scan)
If you recall previous years you will remember a couple patches right before or after the 360 release to apply the changes to the other products so all the AV engines are equalized.
But don't think the 360beta will give you better protection right now, any updates to the AV engine is offset by the less frequent signature updates.
