Windows 8 release schedule

Windows 8 release schedule

<< Today in Toronto, Canada, at Microsoft’s annual Worldwide Partner Conference, [ ... ]

For the first time, we provided details on Windows 8 availability. Tami confirmed that Windows 8 is on track to Release to Manufacturing (RTM) the first week of August. For enterprise customers with Software Assurance benefits, they will have full access to Windows 8 bits as early as August. Additionally, she noted that RTM is when we’ll be turning on the commerce platform so that developers can start earning money for their apps – we'll have more to share on the Windows Store for developers blog soon. Of course, right now with the Windows 8 Release Preview, all apps are still free for people to try.

Tami went on to say that Windows 8 will reach general availability by the end of October! This means that new Windows 8 and

Windows RT PCs will be available to buy and upgrades will be available starting in October. She also mentioned that that Windows 8 will be available in 109 languages across 231 markets worldwide.

Re: Windows 8 release schedule

Hi guys,

If you have any questions regarding Windows 8, I might be able to answer them :) ..

I've already installed W8 RC last evening on my machine,  created a separate partition for it, because I wanted to create a dual boot environment.

The installation completed after  ~ 70 minutes ( SSD HDD ) and it booted automatically into W8.  The boot entry for my previous Windows 7 entry was gone., which is no big deal, I installed Easy BCD and added the entry back to the boot loader. So, dual boot works perfectly so far.

Will try to install Norton tonight ;)

Regards,

John

John,

Did you mean CP or RP?  The Release Preview which is more recent is available now:

It's not clear on Windows Answers how well one can update from one to the other so a clean install is best.

DP(Developer Preview) Post M3

CP(Consumer Preview) Beta

RP(Release Preview) RC

I think he meant the RP one.

Hello guys,

I meant the Release Preview  = Release Candidate ( RP / RC )

Installed the 2012 version of Norton seamlessly, updated and rebooted.   Have a look at Norton from the Metro Interface point of view ( attached pic ).

Win 8 comes now with Hyper V integrated, you just need to enable it as a Windows Feature, which is for me one of the greatest new features.

There is a new Metro App which brings you right away to the MS Store ...  Looking forward to see Norton available here  :)

Regards,

John

Yes I have Norton installed on my WIN 8 but what do you think about the Windows installation procedure that puts all the submenu items on the opening screen at the same level as the application itself.\

IMO this urgently needs fixing -- some of my applications on my WIN7 system have a lot of sub items including Uninstall as you can see in your image.

With Windows 8 it does not seem possible to have submenus, or if it is, it is well hidden .... I mean on the Start screen of course and not when one gets over onto Desktop and hacks the Start Menu <g>

Re: Windows 8 release schedule

Well, speaking of Windows 8, it has reached its RTM milestone (build 9200).

Re: Windows 8 release schedule

I hope they fixed some of the idiocies ideosyncracies like putting a tile/charm on the Metro screen for every element of an application that normally gets listed when you click on the main name in the Programs menu ....
