Norton 360 update to v5 hangs while preparing to uninstall old version

On my XP Pro SP3 desktop, Norton 360 v4 update to v5 hangs while preparing to uninstall old version. A dialog box pops up saying it needs to close. It won't install but begins trying to install & closing everytime the computer boots up. How can I get the upgrade to complete.....or at least remove the installer so it won't continue to try.

There is a problem with using the Removal Tool, although that may be the only option. I currently have 360 version 4 with 8 months or so to go on my subscription. If I remove it, how will I do the free upgrade to version 5? And if I reinstall it, I'm back to the same problem I have now. I suppose that my options are to put up with the 360 hanging install for 8 more months or remove Norton, reinstall version 4, and forget about the upgrade. Not a good solution either way. This is NOT how an upgrade should work. : (

Carolyn129,
The free upgrade does not need to have Norton 360 Version 4.0 installed in your computer. You just need a valid Product Key with active subscription. So, you just need to install Norton 360 5.0 directly and use the Product Key of Norton 360 4.0. Since you are upgrading on the same computer, you need not have to worry about the license. Also, you will get the same number of subscription days from Norton 360 4.0 transfered to Norton 360 5.0.
