Hugh for future reference with this new laptop can you please elaborate a bit on your info about laptops beign special mix ?

I did wonder why I had to reverse the restore, never ever had trouble doing them on desktop xp, would update norton after.

Would restore screw up any brand security then? I assume a clean uinstall would fix it?  I did but still want to know if thats what fixes it?

I have a a665 model toshiba, I only have about three or so toshiba process running on start up mostly hd protect.

I would really like to know if I can do restores anymore on lap or desktop and about laptops thanks!! :)

Just a footnote I did the restore to try and solve the ie issue when it orig, it orig same time others started complaining about ie apparantly I didnt know it tho.
