Is there a big drawback in downgrading to NIS 2011, in terms of program security, features. etc.?  Does the process preserve firewall rules?  Yes, it's a giant hassle we shouldn't have to do.

It seems to me at this point that the best course might be to downgrade, use up the rest of one's subscription time, then when it runs out decide whether or not to give Symantec more money for another year - based on their response to this problem up to now and any future response.
