From a Google search, it appears that dotdefender is some sort of firewall that some websites supposedly have to protect the websites from being attacked. I would suggest running your NIS and do a virus scan after you have uninstalled what ever other security program you had been using. Remember also that NIS also has a fire wall, so uninstall any other fire wall you may have if it's always running. Btw, your NIS should always be running. What version do you have now?

I had NIS 2010 (fully updated) before and after.  Perhaps something got in the computer in between scans, but I still wonder if it was scam.  Maybe some hacker posing as the real thing. You call the number, give them your credit card, etc, etc.

If you want a second opinion on your system's cleanliness, I would recomend Malwarebyte's Antimalware.

Please download MalwareBytes' AntiMalware from this LINK . Choose the free version as this does not have a real time scanner that will interfere with Norton products. Install the program and update the definitions.

Boot into Safe Mode:
Start your system and tap the F8 key until the Advanced Options Menu appears. Using the arrow keys, select Safe Mode (no networking or command prompt) and press ENTER.

Once Safe Mode is loaded, run a full scan with MBAM. Have the program fix / delete whatever it finds and make a log file. Please post the log file contents back here for review.

I did the quick scan first, and this was the result. Afterward, I did the full scan under safe mode, and nothing else came up.

Yes, I did see what it found!  So, I have to wonder why NIS didnt remove it first.
