@ BJM_GURU Not sure what you mean, but FF has the Norton Toolbar, AND Norton Identity Safe. The toolbar has the safe search, and three dots where the rest SHOULD be, but isn't because of the year and a bit needed to fix it (ur sarcasm detector should be bleeping)

@ keithahughes I cannot assume anything, so I have to ask - and I know it might sound insultingly simple! Have you right-clicked on any of the icons next to the search box and there is NO Norton toolbar listed to tick?

Firefox has one Norton extension = Norton Identity Safe.  As you describe is called Norton Identity Safe by Norton aka Norton Toolbar by users familiar with pre Norton Identity Safe extension.

@You Forgot my L..., actually, no I didn't - duh. I was following the "Configure" instructions provided within the NIS Identity screen (https://identitysafe.norton.com/client?product=nsbackup&SSDCAT=314&lang=...). Silly, but I expected the Identity Safe Toolbar extension to be present...as the graphic shows.

In IE Norton has a Toolbar and Identity Safe extensions.

When Norton Toolbar was broken a while back by FF Norton  released a limited Toolbar without Identity Safe but named it Norton Identity Safe in extensions. So enable it and you will get your Toolbar.

Hello Eenywebb

For now you have to copy & paste I think. I don't use Firefox. Once the extension is finished or when Norton announce that those features are ready to be used, then it should do those functions also. It has limited functionality for now.

Is the FULL capability of Norton Identity Safe/Norton Toolbar still going to be released in August 2016?  Has Symantec chosen a specific day in August for the update?

I've pretty much given up on Firefox and switched to Chrome ever since Norton Identity Safe/Norton Toolbar stopped working several months ago.  It would be nice to be able to use Firefox again.  Firefox USED TO be my primary browser 95% of the time for many years.  I may stick with Chrome no matter what now.  It's ridiculous the amount of time that's been required to get this fixed !!  Because of these delays, Symantec should give all Norton Security customers super low subscription prices for the next version.

Is the reason for these delays in fixing Norton Identity Safe/Norton Toolbar because of the upcoming "Windows 10 Anniversary Update" that's supposed to happen on August 2nd?  Anyone know?

Norton is waiting on Firefox to finish their WebExtensions API which is suppose to come in FF 48 if it is not delayed. Can't drive a car without a key and Firefox has the key.

Re: Identity Safe limitierte Kompatibilitaet mit Firefox - aktueller Stand

I’ve been using Norton and Firefox for a number years. Like many others here I have been using Chrome the last few months waiting for the Identity Safe issue to be resolved.

Two days ago, Identity Safe stopped working in Chrome too. When I go to a log in page at a bank, nothing happens. I checked that  Identity Safe was open and I was signed in and I was. But no matter what sign in page I went to, nothing happens.

It does seems to work in Internet Explorer with the full toolbar.

My subscription is up in five days to boot. Feeling feed up!!

I've had that happen in Chrome as well.  If it happens again close Chrome and reopening it in a few seconds.  ID Safe should work again now.

Hi folks,

We're still on track for getting the browser independent extension (remember, not calling it a toolbar, trying to break that habit) to be released by the end of August 2016. Just a few things to share in this update:

  • The extension is being built for Firefox web extension API, so it will be compatible with Firefox 48 and later
  • Our focus for the launch is still on Login items – customers will still need their main Norton Product Vault screens to edit their items

I know it's not much, but we hadn't updated in a while, and you deserved some fresh info. Thanks.

@PhoneMan AKA Jim, for this initial launch, this extension won't be compatible with Edge. There are no immediate plans for support of Edge. However, our overall goal is to be compatible with the browsers that people use, and this extension takes us in a more flexible direction for supporting other browsers. So at the very least, it's something we'll explore in the near future. That's about as specific as I can get, and I know that's pretty vague. Sorry.

Hi Wizard_1:

The Norton v22.7.0.76 update released 20-Jun-2016 includes a patch for the vulnerabilities listed in that US-CERT alert TA16-187A.  From the Solutions section of that US-CERT alert: "Symantec has provided patches or hotfixes to these vulnerabilities in their SYM16-008 [9] and SYM16-010 [10] security advisories."

See RLWA32's thread Support of NIS 21.7.0.11 Discontinued for comments from Symantec employee Tony Weiss on this topic.  As noted in that thread, only the latest v22.7.x products will receive the patch.

To the best of my knowledge, the only Symantec product line still waiting for a patch for these vulnerabilities are the workstations (desktop clients) for the cloud-managed version of Symantec Endpoint Protection - Small Business Edition (SEP/SBE) - see my comments in DynaEan's thread Norton causing BSOD.

I agree with you that Symantec handled this entire situation poorly.  Their customers deserve better.

Really? Is that it? Norton fighter? We cannot I suppose be really surprised when in one of my original posts about the Firefox debacle I stated that if Norton can't get that right how do you expect them to take care of their core function? I can only think it is due to their programmers and or ethical practices. Norton are secretive and not open to their paying clients and do this I have to surmise, for financial reasons. Norton cannot be trusted.

You're welcome to read my comments about Symantec's lack of transparency and accountability regarding the recent vulnerabilities discovered by Tavis Ormandy <here> in RLWA32's thread Support of NIS 21.7.0.11 Discontinued and join that discussion.  The topic of this thread is about the Norton Identity Safe for Firefox, and I didn't want to take it off-topic.  My views on the Identity Safe "debacle" were posted in ALF60's thread Norton Toolbar extension will not be compatible with Firefox 41 ETA fix late October.

What are the "main Norton Product Vault screens"? Are they different from the Identity Safe screens that list the user's logins, tags and other Identify Safe information? And how do we access them? For the years that I have used Identity Safe, I click on the Toolbar and then click on Open Identify Safe.

Hi blkadder:

Symantec employee Tony Weiss posted <here> on 07-Jul-2016 that the new Identity Safe extension for Firefox will require the WebExtensions API in FF v48, and that Symantec is "still on track for getting the browser independent extension (remember, not calling it a toolbar, trying to break that habit) to be released by the end of August 2016".  He added that "Our focus for the launch is still on Login items – customers will still need their main Norton Product Vault screens to edit their items".

According to Jorge Villalobos' 21-Jul-2016 blog entry New WebExtensions Guides and How-tos on MDN in the Mozilla Add-ons Blog, Mozilla is still aiming for a first stable release of WebExtensions in FF v48.  The stable version of Firefox 48.0 is scheduled for release on 02-Aug-2016, but it sounds like only a small percentage of eligible Firefox users will receive full support for the new multi-process architecture (code named "Electrolysis" or e10s) on that date.  Mozilla will collect initial user feedback and then decide whether to push out the full update to all users later in August.

August will be a long Month. Windows 1607 release on Aug 2 and also FF48 (with and without the new Multiprocess add-on feature). Firefox will be the last on my list as I will concentrate on my 3 Windows systems and getting them updated.

Then see how FF48 is doing and what will happen with the Multiprocess feature. Looks like a Beta release to me as they will only activate this feature on "select" installs.

Then if it clears the "select" user tests then released to the general public.

I am sure Norton will have to wait until this "select" Beta is completed before they can release their new extension but will again be slammed for the delay caused by Firefox.

Need a fresh bottle on Patron for the coming Month.

Norton should be slammed, you were in at the beginning and can try to cover over the incompetence of Norton as much as you like, fact is, Norton were at fault initially and you know this! A new system of delivery by Norton well over a year later is not firefoxes fault and you know that because if you don't, your the fool.

Re: Identity Safe limitierte Kompatibilitaet mit Firefox - aktueller Stand

Hi All,

I, too, have been frustrated by the length of this development cycle.  In a way, though, I am glad that this has happened.  It has let me rethink how I use Identity Safe.  When I want an integrated, fully functional Identity Safe toolbar, I use Chrome.  When I want to use Firefox (for "privacy" reasons, perhaps), I don't mind going to my Identity Safe vault and cutting and pasting credentials myself (this is not a lot of effort for me).

In more paranoid moments, I wonder about the safety of any password toolbar or cloud-based password vault.  Anything can be hacked. Should we return to more primitive storage based in encrypted local files or pencil and paper?  Even with this solution, however, clipboard malware and key loggers could intervene.

For me, it comes down to a personal assessment of risk and a personal desire for convenience.  I've made my choice but yours could be different and that's OK.  While I don't like how this whole Identity Safe in Firefox situation has played out, it is not enough for me to ditch the entire Norton product.

Re: Identity Safe limitierte Kompatibilitaet mit Firefox - aktueller Stand

Ditto everything DetroitBill says (the only difference in my case is that I don't use Chrome). I have previously registered my frustration with the way Norton has handled its Identity Safe Firefox issues, but I remain a long-time satisfied customer of Norton Internet Security. As for Identity Safe:

Roughly a year ago I decided I simply had to bite the bullet and invest the time to come up with a password management solution. I was guilty of keeping my ever-growing number of passwords written out on scraps of paper and of using the same easy-to-remember pw with almost everyone. I didn't go through an application selection process and I personally don't like vendor proliferation in my digital life; since I am a Norton customer, I chose the path of least resistance and started the long process, using Identity Safe, of organizing my passwords and changing them to ones randomly generated by the Norton password generator. At the same time I have disciplined myself to always create a new Identity Safe login record as soon as I create a new password, regardless how trivial the site may be or how impatient I may be feeling at the moment - no more paper, no more procrastination, no more easy-to-guess passwords.

While I liked the auto-create and auto-fill features that were working in Firefox when I started this process, I have learned to live with their absence in Firefox (having arrived at some stability, like some recent commentators I almost dread the big new FF solution dangled for so long before our eyes). What's more important to me is that I am finally managing my passwords intelligently and correctly, and Identity Safe has been a good enough vehicle for that.

But, as far as alerting it's customers, how could they do that without announcing to the world "Hey! Calling all hackers and cybercriminals!! There's an incredible opportunity for you here with Symantec Products. We have a gaping vulnerability here that will give you elevated privileges, if you can find it!"

From what I have read, there had been no reports of these vulnerabilities having been exploited.

I have been as you say "critical" of Symantec only since the toolbar issue arose and only about the toolbar.  Has it been years since the Firefox toolbar fiasco?

And yes I do dabble with other security programs.

But Firefox Devotees with extended subscriptions to NS have been robbed. I didn't pay to use  contorted workarounds and use proxies for the integrated security system I paid for.
