Security History window does not erase

On my Mac, the Security History (SH) window is not erase when I click the done button. The window cannot be brought to the foreground. No controls in the SH window are responsive, it's as if clicking Done dismissed the window logically but the command to erase that space was not passed to the window manager. It doesn't interfere with anything, it just looks ignorant. I need to get this to the attention your developers. I believe this is a UI issue

Thanks,

Re: Security History window does not erase

Hello Kirk. I'm not a MAC user but will try to assist you as best that I can. What is the Norton product you have installed and its version? And what version MAC OS do you have? The file shown in your screenshot is detected as a heuristic detection and is a Trojan. Did a restart restore the functionality? And have you or were you running Clean when the issue appeared?

Cheers

Re: Security History window does not erase

I've tried everything you've suggested and more; I'm a senior QA engineer (30+ years) and have a bit of experience troubleshooting and resolving issues. I don't tend to report problems that are minor and resolvable.

Norton product: Norton 360 8.4.2f2
OS X: 10.14.6 (18G87)

The screenshot came from Snapshot Editor, a Mac tool for taking screenshots. It should not pose a threat; you can always open it on a snapshotted and restoreable VM if you're worried.

A restart does clear the screen, of course, but that didn't stop the problem from reoccurring when I invoked the Security History popup to see a Norton vacation. If a second Security History window is invoked, it is dismissable.

I was not running any of the Norton 360 functions.

This issue does not affect any other functionality on the system. It simply leaves a window on the system that cannot be dismissed. All other app windows overlay it, when invoked, and it cannot be brought back to the front once overlaid. It has happened several times in the past, I thought it was time to report it as a bug.

Thanks,
-Kirk

That's supposed to say Norton notification...blasted autocorrect.

Re: Security History window does not erase

I believe you may have an embedded infection attempting to call home on your network. Download Malwarebytes for MAC, run a full scan to be 100% sure Norton isn't missing something that MBAM will detect.

Re: Security History window does not erase

Why would you direct me to a non-Norton web site? Are you a Norton employee?

Re: Security History window does not erase

Kirk. I am not an Norton employee, I donate my time here helping those who are in need of assistance. We Guru's regularly suggest to those needing assistance to download and run a full scan with MBAM since it doesn't conflict with Norton and will detect certain things Norton does not look for. You can speak with someone at support following this link. They ARE Norton employees. Have a great day!!

Re: Security History window does not erase

SoulAsylum,

I do appreciate your help, truly. I didn't intend to belittle your contributions here. I am grateful to anyone who can help solve these one-off situations, and I thank you for taking the time to help.

My reason for concern is that in past situations where I had installed security software from different companies, they tended to buck one another. In one instance one of the packages (McAfee, I believe) corrupted the disk of a work Mac to the point it became unbootable. Since this is my work Mac and my personal machine, I'm just a bit leary of repeating that scenario. I'm in the middle of some data engineering work which I need to finish off in the next day or two.

I think I'll try your approach on my home Mac. It's not as critical and could use a deeper malware scan than Norton provides. If that works, I'll try it on this work machine.

Again, thanks for your help. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Re: Security History window does not erase

No offense taken. Just trying to get you the help with the comfort level you need. Do let us know the MBAM scan results. You can post a screenshot of whatever it finds using this guide as well.

Cheers
