Software Updater - Now you see it now you don't

Hi,

I've got a licence to run Norton Security on several Windows 10 laptops and PCs. I expected that they would all run the same components, but I am offered Norton Software Updater one one machine, and it's not the newest one, and not on another. Is this strange or could it be expected? To me this was a new service, so I would be surprised if it is already being phased out. At one level, I just want to understand, but I would like to be able to check for software updates on my main machine, as well as on the old PC in the office. Any information or useful suggestions gratefully accepted. Thanks a lot.

(The licence is for Norton 360 Platinum. The version number I finally found is 22.22.2.10)

This feature is being phased in. It is being released to a number of systems, and then the release is paused until Norton can check the telemetry to see if there are any problems. It is just a matter of timing when your two systems ran LiveUpdate the only one system got the feature.

I know I'm not anxious to get the feature given the number of posts here on the problems users are having with it. I'll wait until everyone else has done the testing for me.

Update your programs with Norton Software Updater

The Software Updater feature in your Norton product helps keep your third party programs up-to-date to eliminate security vulnerabilities. For total protection, it is important to ensure that all your programs are of the latest version. You need to have a Windows user account with administrator privileges to access this feature.
If you are trial user and your Norton product came preinstalled on your Windows device, you cannot automatically update your programs to the latest version.

I had a similar issue, except the new Software Updater feature was installed on two Win 10 laptops, but it then later disappeared from one of them. I understand the phased rollout idea, but I am surprised that it was removed after being installed?

Be thankful it disappeared!  Norton launched this SU product on random users with an outdated database.  I speak from experience that I already had updated app and browser versions and Nortont's SU product was recommending older versions!! Yes, older versions!.  It also recommended I update my Google Chrome to current version but Google had auto updated my browser version weeks prior.  So what was it scanning and recommendations based on what....outdated or faulty data?  I think so!  In some instances it recommended installing and updating software that should not be attempted.  Some users did and got a messed up computer needing repair.  Read the long post of users on this Forum and their experiences with it that want it removed or a way to permanently disable it.  It's worth the read! It was launched with no way to disable it.  Rotten if you ask me.  Let Windows update keep your computer up to date including your apps or find a tested and proven software updater.  Norton SU is not ready for prime time and this forced product has me seriously considering finding another AV provider. Norton isn't the only AV provider.  Shame on Norton!

Thanks for the reply. I not against the idea, but it does seem it was rushed. Disabling it should definitely be an option, but turning off auto-update means it just runs in the background, which I don't mind. As for the database, I had the opposite experience, when I had it - I was being told Excel had a newer version, but checking for updates in Excel told me I had the latest; but their updates may be rolled out in waves as well. Anyway, I assume it will come back someday and hopefully they add the features users want, like removing or at least disabling.

Any chance that you reinstalled your 360 on the system that lost the feature? That would get you a version that does not have the feature until you can get it again with a LiveUpdate.
