Norton app advisor issue after latest update

Hello,
Since last norton mobile update I noticed issues with status showing until explore apps in google play.
Usually you can see "safe" status, but recentyl in some apps I can see "network not available".
These statuses can be checked for example in:
- group sharing (samsung),
- private share(samsung)
- samsung cloud,
- android system intelligence (google LLC)

...

What is common to these apps that is built in apps i think, but maybe I am wrong.

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

From a forum perspective, your originally reported issue has been resolved. So I would mark the thread as solved.

The interface colour and the No Info issues are known and being worked on. You can start another thread if you like for those.

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

I just looked at my Android 9 Samsung Tab A tablet and saw 3 Samsung updates available. All showed the Safe status from Norton's App Advisor.

It is possible that there was just a temporary server issue between your device and the Norton servers. What part of the world are you in? It may be some localised outages.

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

Im from Poland
Hmm...

I already tried:
- turn on/off device
- turn on/off wifi
- factory reset of my phone
- all apps are up to date.

If it would be temporary then I believe I would have problem with all apps in google play.
I have Samsung Galaxy 20 FE. The same problem I noticed at my wife's mobile(Samsung S10e).
- Android 12
- Norton 360 ver: 5.34.0.220422003
- Google Play ver: 30.4.17-21

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

After the factory reset, does the App Advisor work correctly for any apps?  And then does it still show no network for the Samsung apps?

If so, could you send logs to Norton to help diagnose this issue? Open the 360 app and tap the three bars at the top left. Tap on Settings > General, and scroll down to the Logging section. Turn on Enable Debug Log. Then continue using your device until your issue happens again. In your case, try the App Advisor for apps that it does scan and apps that it shows the network message. After the issue has happened, go back to the Debug Log settings and then tap on Send Error Report with log files. In your submission please include "forum 'your username' " in the Case ID section of the report. Also include a link to this thread. You can turn off logging when you have sent the logs.

If you do send logs, please let me know and I'll notify my contacts to look for them.

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

OK.
I have already sent it.
Checked few apps with "safe" status and anothers with "network unavailable"

Danksagungen0

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

When Network Unavailable is displayed, were any of the apps not part of the OS?

I'll pass this along to my contacts.

Danksagungen0

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

All looks like built in apps(part of the OS).
These are what I found amoung all my installed apps with "network unavilable":

Android System Inteligence(Google LLC) - built in
Group Sharing(Samsung) - built in
Health Platform(Samsung) - built in
Link Sharing(Samsung) - built in
Private Compute Services(Google) - built in
Private Share(Samsung) - built in
Samsung Clock - built in
Samsung Cloud - built in
Samsung KMS Agent - built in

Let me know if you will find out something.

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

Thanks for the added info.

I'll let you know what I hear.

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

My contacts say they are unable to reproduce the issue in house. They also note that there is a new version of 360 Android being released. Look for an update to version 5.35 in Google Play Store app. New versions are released in a phased manner. So if you do not see it now, keep trying over the next week.

After the update see if you still see the issue.

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

OK. I will let till new update will be available.

BTW: If I will turn of data transfer at my phone statuses in app managements looks good "safe" or "no info".
After I will turn on wifi/data transfer issue is appearing.

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

Ive just looked into logs I sent few days ago and there is really some error with these apps.
Do you know what is time of fix and update of errors?

Danksagungen0

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

There is no way to tell how long any fix can take. Norton will never say a fix will be available on any given date because there is no way to tell how long it will take to identify the issue, find the code section, determine how to fix the code, fix the code, test the code and then release. Any glitches in any of the processes means the whole process has to start again.

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

I have already updated norton 360 to version 5.35.1.220516012 - Nothing changed, issue still exists.

Do you think this issue threatens security if all these apps are built in in OS?

Does standard scan scans also all apps including these ones with "unavailable network"
and belove screen is enought prove to sleep well?

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

I think we have to define what these Samsung apps are. If they were actually part of the OS, they would come from updating your OS in Android Settings.

As these apps come from the Google Play Store, they would be considered add ons. As such, there could always be a risk. But you can lower that risk by tapping on the app before downloading and ensure that the developer is Samsung. I still cannot think of why these apps from Samsung seem to be singled out for App Advisor not seeing them.

I have let my contacts know that the new version has not changed anything for your issue. I'll see if there is any more information they need.

EDIT

Just an outlier suggestion. Check in 360 Settings > Security > Scans section. Check the setting for Scan System Apps. If it is turned on, try tuning it off and see if you still see the issue in App Advisor.

"Just an outlier suggestion. Check in 360 Settings > Security > Scans section. Check the setting for Scan System Apps. If it is turned on, try tuning it off and see if you still see the issue in App Advisor. "

This also has not resolve the problem.

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

I did not really think it would. But thought it might be worth a try.

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

Hello,

Do you have any info that someone is working at this issue from norton?

Danksagungen0

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

No. I do not get any updates until there is a pending update. The closest I got to a real time update was that they were unable to reproduce the issue at their end.

Another thing to check might be to see if you can determine when your device last got an OS security update from Samsung. Maybe it coincided with the Norton update and could be the cause of the sudden incompatibility.

Danksagungen0

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

Can you tell me what exacly to check?

Danksagungen0

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

OS security update has date from 1st may 2022
Update for Google Play is from 1st april 2022

Do you need any more informations?

PS: Cant they reproduce this issue at some samsung phone?

Danksagungen0

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

Does the May 1 OS security update coincide with the start of your issues with the App Advisor?

Unless I hear from my contacts, there is nothing more that I can think will help the diagnosis.

I was only told that the dev team could not reproduce the issue. I do not know what physical devices they are using. I have been told that a lot of testing is done on emulators. But those rely on the code given to Norton from the phone manufacturers.

I just got a response from my contact and they were able to duplicate your issue on a Samsung M series device. They have produced their own logs to add to yours, and are sending the information on to the dev team.   Getting closer.

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

It is possible. I noticed issues accidentally moreless 5th of May.

Thx. Great news :)

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

Hi.

Just to let you know that on my Samsung Galaxy S21 5G running Android 12, I have the same issue of "Network Unavailable" on at least one app.  In my case Private Compute Services by Google LLC.  It seems to have nothing to do with my network or the Google Play Network or Norton, and looks really odd.  The app itself appears to be an odd one and not liked because of its obscurity by many people who have found it downloading onto their devices.  Maybe it is more to do with Google rather than Norton or Samsung..  But still seems an odd report for Norton to generate.

I also feel that Norton as been far less reliable on putting up the security flags on apps since the last Norton update, but that is just a feeling I have no statistics to support it.

All the best.

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

Thanks @Andmike for the added confirmation here. Feel free to add a set of logs for our friends at Norton.

I wonder if this is an Android 12 thing on Samsung devices? On my Android 9 Samsung tablet I cannot even find the apps in my Google Play Store app that you and Bart are finding this issue on .

Danksagungen0

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

You can't find it becouse these apps are dedicated for specific devices, android version or so. I have been checking my logs and there were errors with links to these apps. I ve checked all of them and general link to all apps were working but direct links to apps not all. I think norton dev team can check this scenario too.

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

@peterweb - Do you have info when this issye will be fixed?

Danksagungen0

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

Norton never gives an estimated time for a fix. This is because there is no way of knowing just how long it might take to identify, then fix, then test the affected code. If there are any glitches in the process, they have to start over again which would set the release date back. Better to not give false expectations so users do not get upset about a missed deadline.

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

Hello,
I have already updated norton 360 to version 5.36.0.220520002 - Nothing changed except new styles of view, issue still exists.

Danksagungen0

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

@peterweb - Could you find out at least if someone in norton is already working on this issue??

Danksagungen0

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

As I am just a user like you, the only thing they can tell me is what I have already passed on to you. My contact has duplicated the issue and passed along the information to the appropriate department. Along with your logs.

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

I found app with this issue and which is not created by google or samsung. Url: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.war.ww2.wargames.strategy

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

Keep that info handy for when the fix for the original issue is released. When you do get that fix, you can check this other app, and report that as necessary.

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

I've also noticed the "Network Unavailable" in Norton 360 App Advisor for Google Play for many apps (US region). Simply searching Google Play for "file explorer" then start clicking on each app will produce some -- I've attached a pdf with some screenshots of three examples. I've also included screenshots of "Safe," "Unusual Behavior," and "No Info" scan results. I think Norton needs to list the possible scan result labels with a short description for each in Norton 360 Help. Note that after the app with scan result "No Info" was installed, the scan result in Google Play changed to "Safe." It returned to "No Info" after it was uninstalled. However, the apps with scan result "Network Unavailable" showed the same result whether installed or not installed.

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

I'll ask again if there is any update. Sorry I can't do more.

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

No change to the three examples for "Network Unavailable" in the pdf I attached earlier. Currently using Version 5.39.0.220701004, Jul 1, 22.

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

Just have installed new version 5.40.0.220715002 and still no fix. Losing my hope...
Danksagungen0

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

I have the latest Norton 360 Mobile update 5.40.0.220715002 and have the same issue with the incorrect message from Norton. Running Android 12 on Samsung Galaxy S22.

Since all the apps you have referenced and all the same ones I have found have this "no network available" message it is apparent there is a logic error in the Norton app advisor whereby the message should probably read "no info available".

The network message is erroneous but I think Norton has no info concerning these OS apps that have been separated from the OS as individual apps in Android 12 as I have assumed.

Bottom line for me is that it is a cosmetic error and not some malware.

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

Hi everyone, I also have this issue, but mine is a little different. I only have Norton saying "Network unavailable" when scanning the Norton app through Google Play. All my other apps seem fine. My last Norton update was May 28, after that when it scans instead of saying "safe" it says "Network unavailable" for only the Norton app. I had not seen that before, so I didn't update it. But now it is August and it still says that. I guessing it is OK to update the app, since it is from Norton?

I am not using a Samsung phone, mine is a Blackberry Keyone. Android 8.1.0

Re: Norton app advisor issue after latest update

Since the "Network Unavailable" label is only for an update to Norton 360 and Norton 360 is telling you that about its own update, I would say it's safe to update. Not being able to fix the labeling issue in Google Play tells me the program has gotten too complex for the resources the company can apply. (A similar thing is going on with a financial program that starts with Q, in which clicking on view credit score has resulted in error - server not responding - for many months.)
